There is a lot to chat about today .... so stay tuned!
Firstly, well done to the hard-working team who have made huge improvements to the 8th and 9th Holes. The Green staff, and a bunch of volunteers, have been extremely productive over the last week digging, building, laying turf and making new paths. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
HOWEVER...... we girls quite liked the shortened holes, especially when we scored 3/6 on the 8th!!!!! It's a pity we weren't handicapped! Sorry Ellie!
So, it's back to normal now, with GUR ruling on all earthworks, wheel and crawler tracks and roped off sections. The new creeks will be staked as PENALTY AREAS.
Please check the Captain's blog for more detail.
NOVICES TAKE NOTE!!!
A new initiative will be put in place in a couple of weeks (FRIDAY 25TH JUNE) to encourage our 'novice' players to play 9 holes. A few booking times on a Friday morning at 10.30am will be set aside for new/novice players (men and women) to play 9 holes with a member.
We would love to see as many new players as possible put their names down to play with a member.
ANY WOMAN MEMBER WHO CAN SPARE A COUPLE OF HOURS ON A FRIDAY MORNING TO BE PART OF THIS INITIATIVE, PLEASE CONTACT MYSELF OR KEVIN KENNY.
THE PAMELA TALLENTS TROPHY.
Pam is an Honorary Life Member, having been nominated for this wonderful achievement in 2016. Pam joined BGC in 1979 and was a very keen golfer throughout her years. Pam served as Women's President and Captain and was recognised for her outstanding service to the club in so many ways.
It is such an honour that Pam answered our request to name our new trophy event after her - thank you Pam!
The event is scheduled to be played over 2 days in the same week - 6th and 8th July 2021. Please see the ToC below to get an idea of the format. We are hoping that it will a hugely successful and eagerly contested event in our calendar over many years to come - a little bit like The Solheim Cup!!!!

15 pairs took part in this BGC prestigious Trophy Event. There were husband & wife Teams, Old and Young Teams and Just Pal Teams. Well done to you all for finishing 2 rounds in one piece!
It was a terribly exciting finish on Sunday afternoon and we were not sure whether there would be a tie; and the 2 leading pairs would be heading down the 19th! However, it was not to be

Due to the rain yesterday, quite a few girls came into the club for lunch..... and LOTS of chat! What a lovely catch up we all had!
One of our gals - Ellen Neale, is recovering at home from a procedure. Whilst Ellen cannot play golf for a bit, she is very busy putting together a fabulous trip for us all in September (6th & 7th - Coring Greens). More information will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks. We hope a lot of you will be able to participate in this 'fun time away' as it certainly a fantastic way to get to know each other.
We also wish Anne Vitou and Chris Hill speedy recoveries from their bout in hospital and surgery.

SCORECARDS
Most of you have now got the hang of filling in the dots on the scorecards. There has been some chat about the lines being very difficult to see. Kevin advised me that they cannot be any darker, as the reader/scanner would not be able to read the dots over the lines. So we just have to wear our glasses!!!!
The reader/scanner will only read black or blue dots, so please do not use a red pen!!
The Bowral/Goulburn Shield is to be played on Tuesday 8th June. The following girls will be representing Bowral @ Goulburn GC. GOOD LUCK TEAM!!
Leonie Poulton, Annie Geddes, Barb Clayton, Pam Barker, Chris Levy, Sue Flaxman, Jill Malone, Jane Clifford, Ellen Goodwin, Rosemary Downing, Jane Kilmister and Sharon Rowe.
WHITTAKER’S WINNERS
I find it hard to go past my regulars but I am constantly poking around and trying new things. K Mart our newest addition to Bowral has some extraordinarily cheap & interesting items which I will touch on this week but will promise to list more goodies in the future.
- K Mart – A great gift idea that replaces a cake of soap but costs the same is the ever so real faux coral. You probably have seen the look at Suzie Anderson’s displayed on a pile of books or in a book case. I bought some and put it in a glass hurricane instead of the ho hum candle. Looks great for about $8.00.
- Pillow Talk – How hard is it to find a decent birthday card etc. Well the relatively new addition to this homeware shop is the simply wonderful small range of cards. No hideous wording inside but simple words and especially lovely designs and wait till you see the envelopes!! price, $4.00. Too good to be true ? and yes they are regulation AP size.
- Aldi – I can’t help myself in that I have just discovered a new line of apple strudel and it really is excellent. No thick pastry ends and it is full of apple. You must keep at least one in your freezer. Long and thin, about 30cm, it slices easily and tastes great.
I really hope you enjoy these winners as much as I do and I’ll keep them coming!
Jane
Here are a couple of samples of the cards.....
Rule 17 is a specific Rule for penalty areas, which are bodies of water or other areas defined by the Committee where a ball is often lost or unable to be played. For one penalty stroke, you may use specific relief options to play a ball from outside the penalty area.
17.1
Options for Your Ball in Penalty AreaPenalty areas are defined as either red or yellow. This affects your relief options (see Rule 17.1d).
You may stand in a penalty area to play a ball outside the penalty area, including after taking relief from the penalty area.
a. When Your Ball Is in Penalty Area
Your ball is in a penalty area when any part of it lies on or touches the ground or anything else inside the edge of the penalty area, or is above the edge or any other part of the penalty area.
b. You May Play Ball as It Lies in Penalty Area or Take Penalty Relief.
You may either play the ball as it lies without penalty or play a ball from outside the penalty area by taking penalty relief.
Exception - Relief Must Be Taken from Interference by No Play Zone in Penalty Area.
c. Relief for Your Ball Not Found but in Penalty Area
If your ball has not been found and it is known or virtually certain that it came to rest in a penalty area you may take penalty relief under this Rule.
But if it is not known or virtually certain that your ball came to rest in a penalty area and the ball is lost, you must take stroke-and-distance relief.
d. Relief for Your Ball in Penalty Area - SEE R & A WEBSITE FOR DIAGRAMS.
You have the relief options shown in Diagram #1 17.1d (relief for yellow penalty area) and Diagram #2 17.1d (relief for red penalty area), each for one penalty stroke.
e. Relief Must Be Taken from Interference by No Play Zone in Penalty Area.
In each of these situations, your ball must not be played as it lies:
- When your ball is in a no play zone in a penalty area.
- When a no play zone on the course interferes with your stance or swing for your ball in a penalty area.
