Women's Golf News

Well hello again! I thought that I would start the Blog with some "happy photos" of our day at Royal Canberra Golf Club yesterday. As you can see the sun is shining, the fairways, rough and greens are firm and dry ..... and there was LOTS OF RUN!.
Even though it was a perfect day, your team did not come home with the Trophy. Royal Canberra won the day, with the Braidwood team coming Runners Up.
It was Sally-Anne's first outing to Royal Canberra, and, by all accounts, she loved it!
All the team played well, but the lack of practice certainly made it pretty difficult.
WELL DONE TEAM - YOU DID US PROUD!

Next Tuesday 2nd August is our Medal Round #3/President's Cup #2. Already 23 wonderful women have put their names down to play - HURRAH!! We will play 18 holes on The Temporary Cart Course (I am waiting for confirmation re carts). This course has been verified by GNSW as an acceptable course for Medal rounds. Make sure those clubs are clean and shiny so they hit the ball beautifully. Good Luck everyone!
We will have a mini Presentation after golf, so please stay.

Wattle Day has been cancelled for 2022 which is terribly sad, but due to low numbers and the course conditions, we could not hold this event. Let's hope August 2023 will see it back on the calendar.

WHITTAKER'S WINNERS

• Bing Lee  -  There is nothing like a good casserole or risotto on a cold night  so think electric Crock Pot.  Now I know they’ve been around for a while, but this one is a beauty.  It’s a multi-function cooker and I really love the pressure cooking function which is very simple.  It also has the sauté/browning function which means no need to use a fry pan first. It’s about $169 for the Express Crock XL Multi Cooker.  You won’t regret it.

 

• Woolies -  I was told many years ago about the Woolies deli sliced rare roast beef.  It’s still available and is so convenient if you want a very lean rare cut with no hint of dryness.  It’s really good on sliced baguettes with horseradish cream!

 

• Aldi -  I hope this item is still available as when it comes on special is goes very quickly.  Just ask Kevin K who gave me the tip off!  It’s Truffle Mustard by Develey in the centre aisle this week.  It can be used as basting on lamb or for all sorts of creative cooking. Love it! I couldn’t resist the huge jar of tiny capers as well!

 
Get that Crock Pot cranked up and you will rediscover the joy of cooking for those of us who can never think what to cook at night.

We have 40 days until it is SPRINGTIME! Let's hope it Not 40 days and 40 nights of rain! I think we are all over this weather, but spare a thought for those youngsters who have pitched tents in Byron Bay, and now their tents and swags have been washed away @ Splendour in the Grass (MUD) Festival. Sure does bring back memories of Glastonbury!!
Some of you are away in warmer climates - have fun!
We did manage one game of golf this week - 18 women sloshed through the mud on Tuesday, a couple managed to get bogged in their buggy a couple of times. No names, no packdrills ....... but watch out for an orange buggy coming your way!

As can be seen on the website - no carts until at least Wednesday of next week. Because of this, the Medal Round #3 and President's Cup Rd 2 have been rescheduled to Tuesday 2nd August. This might give the course a little more time to dry out and carts may be allowed on the temporary Cart Course (5,6,7,10 -15).
I have been in touch with GNSW and they are allowing GNSW events to take place on temporary courses.

Talking of GNSW, Bowral GC is a very happy recipient of assistance from NSW Golf Club Flood Relief Fund. Check out GNSW website for more info.
Golf Clubs across New South Wales will get some much-needed assistance to help recover from recent flooding, with proceeds raised through the NSW Golf Club Flood Relief Fund.

Facilities from the Far North Coast down to the Victorian Border and west out to Broken Hill impacted by the disaster will receive cheques ranging in value from $2500 to $7500 to assist in repairing damaged courses and facilities.
In total, 41 clubs applied for – and all were granted, some level of assistance from the fund.

Next Thursday 28th July, Team Bowral will head down to play in the 51st Challenge Bowl @ Royal Canberra Golf Club. Our team consists of 4 players, with the winning team will be the team with the highest aggregate score of THREE Stableford scores.

Another missive from me in this LITTLE BOOK OF HORRORS!! I am trying to stay positive, and believe that this miserable weather will disappear. Looking out the window, we have blue skies, lovely sunshine and no wind - a perfect day!! However, I don't think it is going to continue into next week - but let's hope.

There are number of our women members who are a little poorly at the moment. We wish Gloria, Chris Hill, Anne Vitou, Barb Clayton and anyone else who is feeling under the weather, a speedy recovery.

We had to postpone the Pamela Tallents Trophy Event which was due to be played next Tuesday and Thursday (19th & 21st). The course is still not conducive to a fun event, or any event for that matter. So, next week's timesheets are now open for a Stableford event on both days - fingers crossed!! We hope to reschedule the event in September, with Jane and Jan as our Captains still.

At least we have some wonderful golf to watch - THE OPEN @ ST. ANDREWS. It looks as though it hasn't rained in Scotland for some time, as the fairways are almost "desert-like". Unheard of!! Heatwave conditions too, over much of the U.K.

Our annual Wattle Day is fast approaching - Thursday 4th August. It will be a different format this year, as the conditions of the course are changing almost daily.
IT WILL BE A FUN DAY - LOTS OF YELLOW, PRIZES, RAFFLES ETC SO PLEASE STAY TUNED!! 🌼.

WHITTAKER'S WINNERS

• Big W -  I must admit I’m not a slippers girl nor an Ugh Boots fan although I will confess I have been tempted with the latter over the last few weeks, strictly for inside of course!!  However, I saw these boots at Big W and they are potentially the answer for those occasions when you just need to slip something on your feet to put out the washing or bring in the bins. They have rubber soles and look quite suitable for outdoors with "tracky dacks" naturally!  I would go so far as to  say they are boots but not of the Ugh variety but perhaps getting close. I think for $30 these boots are a ‘Winner’ so I’m going to give them a go!
  

 

• Woolies – Have you ever tried the bite size Jam Donuts from the bakery section of Woollies?  They are wonderful little treats with morning coffee.  They sell out quickly so be quick and make sure you ask at the bakery, as often they haven’t come out of the oven. 
  

 

• Coles – If you’re a Coles shopper you are probably familiar with the Cremorne St Bakers Chocolate Fudge Brownie Bites and if not, well make sure you try some.  Heat in the micro for a few seconds and serve with cream. They are delicious and so are the Coles own brand of chocolate brownies, nut free. They are both in the section of cakes etc. opposite the bakery.

Totally over it, as I am sure everyone else is too!! The long-range weather forecast for the month of July is not look great either.  Oh well, we will just soldier on making changes and postponing events. You have been champions - just going with the flow and very understanding! THANK YOU!!

If only we could have sunshine and shadows everyday. 

As the course has been closed all week, there has been no golf played, so no results today.
However, the clubhouse has been busy hosting bridge, book club and tonight is the First Friday Dinner - which I hear is totally booked out. Sally has been doing an amazing job, whilst Tim and Kevin have been away, and I would like to congratulate and thank her for all her hard work. THANKS SALLY!!

NEW KNOCKOUT SCHEDULE
 
Hopefully you all received the email (eventually) with the new knockout schedule for the Match Play events. Here it is again for your convenience.

ROYAL CANBERRA CHALLENGE BOWL
This prestigious event is on again at Royal Canberra GC on Thursday 28th July.
The Match Committee have chosen the team to represent BGC and we wish them luck.
The team is:- Virginia Wozniak, Annie Geddes, Jane   Clifford and Sally-Anne Ferguson.

Depending on what happens re the course, we will just be playing Stableford competitions next Tuesday and Thursday. Dave Burgess will let us know re course conditions.

Don't forget, if you've got a few spare moments, check out the Rules videos on USGA and R & A websites - they are terrific.

Good Morning, albeit a wet one! As you can see from the photo above, the forecast for next week is not looking very appealing. It is so disappointing, as yesterday when we played, the course was drying out beautifully, the boys had been on the mowers and things were looking pretty good. Hopefully the rain will not be as heavy as predicted, and the course holds up.
The good news is, we managed to get in another Medal Round - second one for the year. We also played the VWGA Country Championships - winners of this event will be announced at our Annual Meeting.
Even though it was a Stroke round yesterday, the field moved very quickly. Thanks everyone for playing READY GOLF and KEEPING UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT!! It makes such a difference.
The Medal winners from February 10th were presented with their NEW medals yesterday, along with yesterday's Medal winners.

Your Team Captains are busy organising things behind the scenes, so look out for emails from them, once the teams have been decided.

WHITTAKER'S WINNERS

• TEMPLE & WEBSTER –  Never underestimate the impact of your front porch or entrance, as it can tell a story of its own, and the doormat, well that almost talks!!  It is the first thing that is noticed, albeit subconsciously, by your guests.  Go for the biggest you can find - that’s my advice and  mine is 115cm x 70cm and is made of coir.  I bought mine some time ago at Mitre 10 in Mittagong but they are not showing them on their website at the moment.  It may be worth an enquiry as they are probably just out of stock.  They are certainly not easy to find in that size but I have located them on the Temple & Webster website.  They are not cheap for a doormat, but the extra kings size is well worth it.  Temple & Webster $129 but for memory Mitre 10 was more like $80. Good luck.
  

 

• KITCHENWARE.COM.AU – What every girl needs…..a very savvy but subtle insulated wine bag.  Not your average wine cooler, these bags or purses by Sachi are gorgeous and soo many choices!  Just go to kitchenware.com.au website and you’ll see what I mean.  What a simply fabulous gift!  Prices Range from about $25-$50.  If only there was a local stockist.
  

 
 

• ALDI – It’s cold here now and to help you stay warm, whilst playing golf, there are only two real tricks apart from warm clothes, walking fast and eating chocolate. I know you think the latter is naughty but I’m not talking about a whole block.  Aldi sell these wonderful little packets of chocolate bars and just 5 in each packet. If you share them with your partners then all is OK. I was going to provide a photo but I’ve eaten all 5 little packets!  They are located at the very end of the chocolate section.  You’ll be a very popular playing partner.
