​It could not have been a more exciting finish than what transpired today.
Leaders Pam Barker(19) and Chris Hill(18) went head to head with just one stroke separating them at the start. Pam’s birdie 2 on the shortened 12th hole may have been a ‘crunch’ moment, as Pam retained her one shot lead to regain the Championship she last won in 2016. Both returned a gross 93 today, and their consistent play over the three rounds also earned Pam and Chris the Overall Nett Best scores across all divisions (228 and 229 respectively).
 
Susan Harrison(25) lead all the way to win the Championship for Division 2 for the first time. Today’s 105, while not her best, was enough to keep a three shot lead over runner up Clare Stanham (26), who also recorded 105 today.  
Division 3 Champion is Rosemary Downing (35) 14 shots clear of Uschi Eriksson.
 
Congratulations to all our new Champions and Runners up who were presented with their trophies today, as well as Vouchers to attend the Club’s Anniversary (Presentation) dinner in March 2019. The trophies will be presented again at the dinner in front of a full Club audience!
 
Best score in today’s round was from Barbara Clayton, with Gross 92/Nett 72 to claim the Daily Nett Prize voucher, from second placed Carol Warner on a count back with 74 nett.
Today’s Pro pin was not won ($20 jackpots to next week!) and Jan Deane won the NTP (2nd shot) on 4th.
 
Next Thursday is a Stroke event open to All players, but also incorporates the Marjorie Walker Rosebowl (for Division 2 players) and the Medal of Medals Trophy for all eligible Club Medal winners from this year.
Entry is online, so remember you need to “be in it to win it” for any of these trophies as well as the daily event open to all!

Round two of the Women’s Club Championships today saw a change in leader, but with just one stroke in it, the outcome is far from predictable!
Well done to Pam Barker with the best round of the day 94/nett 75, from Jan Deane 95/76.  Unfortunately Jan missed Round 1 of our Championships and is not in contention, but Chris Hill with 97 following her 96 from last week, will be the main challenger. I am backing Carol Warner as the ‘outsider’ for a long odds bet!

Susan Harrison is still leading Division 2 with her gross 102, from chasers, Clare Stanham and Wendy Burke, just three strokes behind.
Division 3 leader is still Rosemary Downing, 11 shots clear of Uschi Eriksson.
Today’s Pro pin was not won ($25 jackpots to next week!) and Barb Clayton won the NTP (2nd shot) on 4th.
 
Once again, the “seeded draw” across the field from today, has been entered into the computer for Thursday. Please be aware that in the event of a tie in any division, a playoff will take place over 4 holes (1,2,3,18) and sudden death on the same holes, if no result after the first 4 holes. Committee members Jan Deane and Anne Geddes will act as Match Committee referees in the event of a playoff.
 
New players are welcome to join in the daily nett event, at the end of the field.
 
The Presentations and Celebrations of our Club Champions, will take place immediately after results are confirmed on Thursday, if you could plan on staying around to support our winners and enjoy a celebratory ‘bubbles’!
 
Saturday’s Stableford was won by Lyn Solness(26) with 32 pts on a count back from Maggie McKenzie (20).
 
And unfortunately the Lady Captain’s team went down to the Men’s Captain's team on Sunday morning. The Men definitely outclassed us this year in a the heavy conditions. We nevertheless enjoyed a very pleasant social time, with an even better Roast Lunch in the clubhouse afterwards to ‘numb’ the pain of defeat!
 
Canberra Shield is on Thursday 8th November:
This is a CSGA event, played as MatchPlay (off full handicap difference) in teams of 8 at RMC Golf Club, Canberra…
We really need more players, and would love to see some new names in our team this year. Maybe find a friend and travel together!! We are able to cover the $15 Green fee per player, as well as support for travel (as raised in our raffles held during this year!) Please see Jane Clifford or sign up in the locker room.
 
A few changes to your November/December calendar:

• Thursday 8th November: Local event is now Stableford (late start after 9.45am).
• Saturday 10th November: Stableford (was Stroke)
• Tuesday 13th November: NSW Veterans Week of Golf at Bowral (and throughout the Highlands)– Social Play after 12 noon
• Thursday 22nd November: CSGA Gala Day at Braidwood GC (see sign up sheet in locker room)
• Saturday 8th December: Stableford (was Stroke)

The 2018 Women’s Club Championships commenced today, with the second and third rounds of the 54 hole Championship continuing next Tuesday and Thursday. We were very relieved to be able to play today (in sunshine, no less) and that carts were allowed, to get us off on the right foot for the rest of the Tournament!
 
Best score posted today in the heavy conditions, was a 96, nett 77 from Chris Hill. Chris also collected the Nett prize for today, and will lead the field in the seeded draw by gross scores for the second round.
Runner up in gross score was Pam Barker with 98 (nett 79), with Sue Harrison splitting these two with a nett 78.
Sue leads Division 2 with her gross 103, from a trio on 106, Jane Clifford, Clare Stanham and Wendy Burke.
 
Chris Hill also won today’s Pro pin of $27.50 on 14th hole (and holed the Birdie Putt, I’m told!). Jill Scott won the Drive and Pitch on 4th with a good approach shot.
 
Division 3 leader is Rosemary Downing (115) from Uschi Eriksson (122).
 
The “seeded draw” across the field from today, has been entered into the computer for next week. Please arrive early for your tee start, in case you will be moved up in the field on the day!
New players are welcome to join in the daily nett event, but will play at the end of the field.

Highland’s Golf Club Charity Day (Pat Sewell Memorial Day) is being held on Tuesday 30th October. It’s a 3 person Ambrose, Cost $20 pp, Shotgun Start 9am.

mmWEATHER UPDATE : The 2 person Ambrose event for today was cancelled due to lack of numbers and the very wet course. A few players went out for a practice ahead of the Championships starting on Thursday. 
The weather forecast is not great, and already Carts are NOT allowed on the course. Unless it dries out a bit, this is unlikely to change in the next few days.
 
However, if the Course remains open the Championships WILL commence on Thursday, even if Carts are not allowed (and I am very sorry to those affected by this).  However, the Club Championship MUST be held if at all possible. 

If this changes, a decision will be made on Thursday morning and uploaded HERE.

Bowral GC JUMPERS: ORDERS TAKEN NOW!, JUST $75
The Committee has been investigating the possibility of a Club Jumper for the colder days, to be worn for  representative wear, as well as for anyone who wants to look 'Cool'!
Kevin Kenny has sourced a ProQuip brand NAVY jumper with white BGC Logo, and is offering members a discounted purchase price of $75 (usual retail in our Proshop is $99). This is a great deal, but we must get our orders in quickly to secure the stock. 
The jumpers are Merino wool, Machine Washable, Water Repellent, and in Women's sizing in S,M,L XL,XXL with a V neck. Anyone who already has one from the Proshop (as I do) is very happy with them! 
There are a few sizes to try on before ordering - an XL in the Proshop and I have a Size M which I will bring in. 
Kevin is modelling the Men's style in this photo, just to give you the colour idea.

Today was the Annual General meeting of the Women's Committee. For those who also played golf in the 1,2,3, Countdown team event, it was just like our typical Winter's Day- cool and mostly fine, with a slight easterly breeze never allowing the clothing layers to come off! 
Only 5 teams of three were brave enough on the day, and winners were the current in-form player Carol Warner (who also won the NTP on 11th), with Jill Scott and Barbara Clayton scoring 63 points. Runners up were Jane Clifford, Shirley Brereton and Carole Turpie on 62 pts. 
The meeting was preceded by the Presentation of many trophies and awards from during the year, which are listed below:

With the heavy rain forecast, all players abandoned golf today for the warmth of the indoors! A few ladies enjoyed Bridge at the club and another group came in for Lunch , drinks, and very pleasant conviviality!

I have rescheduled the Marjorie  Walker Rosebowl Trophy to later in the year. The Match Committee have agreed to play it in conjunction with the Stroke Round on 1st November, when the Medal of Medals will also be decided.
All are welcome to play on the day, with the 2018 Medallists vying for that Trophy, and Division 2 players contesting the Rosebowl, while the remainder will be playing for the Daily prizes!

We have a busy season ahead in October:

The Sign up sheet for the first Round of the Club Championships is available in the Lockerroom (or you can email me using the link on the RHS to add your name if unable to attend the club).
The three rounds of the Championships are 18,23,25 October. Note that you may Play on any of the days for the Daily Nett Prizes, if unable to play all 3 rounds. 

Womens Annual Meeting and Golf - Thursday 11th October, Shotgun Start 8.30 am  - Entry is online for the Stableford 1,2,3, Countdown , followed by Lunch and Meeting at 2pm.

Sunday 21st October - Men's Captain v Women's Captain 12 hole Stableford event (Shotgun start from 930am) - Please sign up online in the tees allocated. 
Sunday ROAST LUNCH is available afterwards from 12noon in the clubhouse, and please Book at the Bar if staying for lunch!

Congratulations go to our junior player, Michelle Di Natale  who broke her handicap last Saturday scoring a massive 46 points! Michelle's GA is now 9.2. 
Congrats also  to Jenny Ogg, who also had a good round on Saturday, to reduce her handicap enough to put her in A Grade!
