Another month has past us by and the golfing calendar is in full swing.
Golf NSW have held 2 successful events at Bowral Golf Club, being the Family Bowl in February which saw our Vice President, Anne Keys and husband Peter representing our club. The ladies Summer Meeting was held over three days and as usual was a financial boust to the club. Presentation of Trophies was held at Bowral this year- also a bonus. Golf NSW have already booked the course for three days in 2012 - put the dates in your diary - 1st week in March 2012. Opening Day although rescheduled was a victory to President Bernadette's team. Congratulations to her players. Captain v Captains was a victory to the ladies - well done. St Patricks Day - 17th March was our Invitation Day. With a theme of "Bring a Friend, Pay for your Friend and Think Green" we had another successful day but it could have been better. Lets try in 2012 to ALL bring a friend. This is your chance to show your course to other ladies. Many ladies from Goulburn and Tully Pary would love an invite. The main competition of the day, member & visitor, was won by Pam Barker, Jocelyn MacKay, Anne Keys and Trish Smith. Both visitors were from Moss Vale and went home with guest towels embroidered with green shamrocks. The pennant team have started their trek to Canberra - the results are: CSGA Plate - BGC lost to Highlands at Murrumbidgee 1/2 to 4 1/2 , BGC defeated Federal at Yowani 5 nil. Bronze Shield - BGC squared with Gungahlin Lakes at Belconnen 2 1/2 each, BGC lost to Royal Military College at Fairbiarn 2 / 3 I congratulate all the players and appreciate the fact that they are dedicated enough to get up so early to represent your club. The next matches are on Friday 8th April, Plate at Belconnen and Shield at Royal Military College. This is great match play experience and a chance to play the lovely ACT courses for nothing. The Jubilee Foursomes are currently in match play mode. Please watch for the scores posted in the locker room. The Challenge Bowl draw will be done this week and on the notice board. Please be aware of the play by dates. SLOW PLAY - will not be tolerated. The last Medal Round was not a happy day. The lose of several faiways caused a bank up along the line and by the time the last group was hitting from the 1st tee the 10th tee starters were on their tail. Pease be considerate of your fellow golfers. I don't expect you to run , but I do expect you to keep up with the group in front. If a difficulty arises, call the next group through. Remember 1 minute late at the start has a flow on effect right through the field. A notice has been posted in the locker room regarding the new stroke and match indices which willcome into play in the near future. Captain David anticipates that it will be about May with a new print run of cards. If you would like a copy of these indices please see me. The men are also changing their stroke index. Computers are wonderful things and allow us to monitor the strokes taken on each hole over any set period of time. This change has nothing to do with the course rating which will take place in August. The course rating will give Bowral Golf Club a specific rating number which wil be used when other club members play our course. Whilst your handicap at Bowral may be 25 it could and probably will be different on other courses - could be more or less. Ladies I've had my whinge - please be considerate of fellow golfers and then we can all enjoy our game of golf. - Pam Barker - Lady Captain This is your new blog post. Ladies I owe some of the players an apology. Today I awarded the Runner Up Division 1 to Joan Polglase. There were count backs and in the heat of the day I made an error and missed the fact that Maggie McKenzie had won Runner up outright. Oops Maggie

Another wet day. It's all too frequent in the Highlands and is taking a toll on the Golf.
Not all news is bad news - Bowral retained the Bowral/ Goulburn Shield with 5 1/2 points each. To take the shield you must have a clear win. Well done ladies. Friday the CSGA Plate Pennant Teams played at Bowral ( BGC ladies had a bye)and at starting time 9.00am you could not see as far as the 150 metre marker on the 1st fairway. The mountain mist was falling and they wondered what they had struck. The teams that travelled from Canberra had left a beautiful day behind to arrive here in fog. Friday was also the first round of the CSGA Bronze Shield Pennant Division. The Bowral ladies travelled to Belconnen with the following results: Anne Keys was defeated,Barbara Westwood was defeated, Leonie Carroll squared her match and the stars of the day were Wendy Pope & Faye Frith , both winning their matches. Congratulations to the TEAM. It is a big ask for you to leave home at 6.30 am to travel to Canberra. Next Friday both teams will be competing - The Plate against Federal at Yowani, and The Shield against Royal Military College at Faribairn. Another early trip to Canberra. St Patrick's Day - 17 March - was our Annual Invitation Day. The theme was "Think Green" . Various shades of green were seen around the course and in the club house including my team with Green Hair. The winners took away lovely prizes of Guest towels embroidered with Green Shamrocks, Stainless Steel Water Bottle (No plastic contamination from them) and various other novelty prizes suitable for Our Irish Day. The raffle of a Bottle of Dubliner Irish Whiskey Liquer was drawn by and won by Alex Dowlings guest, Liz Cavill from Manly Club. Liz kindly donated it back and Jill Scott was the subsequent winner. Jill tells us she will be taking it to Cowra when the ladies play there in June. Many clubs are now holding their Open Days - Look in the locker room for any club that may be offering a challenge to you and your friends. Secretary Lea is waiting to take your money and send your entry. Remember this Wednesday is the Clubs' Information Evening. Support your club and look into the future. Come along and ask questions. Don't be afraid to have your say. Thursday 24th is the 2nd Medal Round - we hope for a dry day and good golf scores. Divisions 2 & 3 are starting from the 1st tee and Division 1 from the 10th tee. If you have not put your name on the list please call me and we will make a spot available for you. Pam Barker - Captain - Ladies Golf. |
