Women's Golf News

Good Morning and welcome to my last Blog.
I have loved writing this over the past 2 years - sharing all the good news about the Women at BGC - hopefully you have all enjoyed reading about the various events that have occurred, on the golf course, and off! You have all shone in one way or another.
I have mentioned Jane Whittaker as a huge contributor, but I'd also like to thank Alex for editing the Blog every week - he doesn't miss a comma or an apostrophe!!

The Annual Meeting took place on Thursday 24th November, and I'd like to thank Pam Tallents for being The Returning officer on the day, and Sue Flaxman for running such a successful meeting.
As you can see from the above photo of the Trophy Table - the Trophies were all engraved and highly polished - a special thanks to Chris Levy for all her work.

CLOSING DAY
Next Thursday is Closing Day. It's a Shotgun Start @ 9.00am, followed by lunch in the Clubhouse. Regina has devised a scrummy lunch for us all.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME FOR LUNCH ONLY, AND HAVE NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON THE LIST, PLEASE CONTACT SUE FLAXMAN BY SUNDAY 27TH NOVEMBER. ALSO, IF YOU HAVE TO CANCEL, PLEASE DO THE SAME.

There will be a few FUN things on the day, so dress up in your very best Christmas attire and Ginny and I will see you outside the Pro Shop bright and early on Thursday morning! Let's hope the sun is shining!

As it is a Shotgun Start, you will be able to pay for your golf and lunch, and pick up your cards from the Pro Shop on Wednesday afternoon if you so wish.
Thank you for all your wonderful donations to the raffle - it will be drawn on Closing Day; so don't forget to bring some cash with you as there are some fantastic prizes.

What is it with 2022 and the weather? Today it is 16 degrees, and it feels like Winter! Fires are still being lit, and jumpers worn!
Hopefully we have turned the corner with the BIG WET and it's good to hear that the Indian Ocean Dipole is over for a few years.
It is tragic to watch the footage of the floods in Forbes, Molong and Eugowra, and our hearts go out to those people who have been affected. I hope all your family and friends are safe.
Let's hope this dry weather continues for the next few weeks for everyone.

Yesterday Barb Clayton and I played in the CSGA Gala Day @ R.M.C GC. It was a brisk start to the day, but with 70 women in the field, it was great fun! The theme was "Birds of a Feather" and some of the outfits were fantastic!
Unfortunately, Barb and I did not even win a raffle prize!! Thanks to the CSGA for putting on all their events this year - it is a lot of work!

ANNUAL MEETING 24/11/22
The Annual Meeting of the BGC Women Members for 2022 will commence at 2.00pm on Thursday 24th November, after which, there will be the Presentation of Trophies for 2022. We hope to see you all there to congratulate the winners and welcome in your new committee.
It is great to see that 33 women have put their names down for golf on that day - let's hope the numbers keep rising.

CLOSING DAY
This super fun day is fast approaching...... Thursday 1st December. There are still a few spots available for golf - so pop your names down. It's a Mini Shotgun Start (9.00am) and the event is a 3BBB Aggregate Stableford - A team’s event for three players, where the stableford points for each player are added together for each hole.

Don't forget to get your outfits sorted - there is a prize for the BEST DRESSED TEAM.
Who can forget these jolly girls last year?

There will be lots of surprises on the day, so make sure you join in the fun!!
CHRISTMAS RAFFLE to be drawn on closing day.
If you would like to donate some goodies to the Christmas hampers (1.FOOD. 2.BEAUTY. 3.GOLF) please leave them in the boxes on the table in the Locker Room.

GOLF RULES:- NEW RULES WILL APPLY ON 1/1/23
The R&A and USGA have unveiled a regular update to the Rules of Golf as they continue to make the Rules easier to understand and apply. The new Rules will go into effect on 1 January 2023.
The 2023 edition continues the modernisation process, with an emphasis on both inclusion and sustainability. For the first time, the modified Rules for players with disabilities have been fully incorporated into the playing rules without the need to adopt a local rule. The governing bodies, supported by longstanding partner Rolex, will also promote digital and mobile app access to the Rules while significantly reducing the production and distribution of more than four million printed books.  Several penalties have been relaxed and language has been clarified to help golfers at all levels of play. 
Key changes include:

• Modifications for Players with Disabilities: The modifications to the Rules for players with disabilities have been made part of the Rules and are in effect for all players who fall under the categories covered in Rule 25.
• Handicap Usage in Stroke Play: With the continued growth of digital scoring following the adoption of the World Handicap System, players are no longer required to show their handicap on their scorecard in stroke play. The Committee will be responsible for calculating the player’s handicap strokes for the competition and using that to calculate the player’s net score.
• Club Damaged During Round: The Rule has been amended to allow a player to replace a club that is damaged during a round, provided the player did not damage it through abuse. 
• Ball Moved by Natural Forces: A new Exception provides that a ball at rest must be replaced if it moves to another area of the course or comes to rest out of bounds after being dropped, placed or replaced.
• Back-on-the-Line Relief Procedure: The back-on-the-line relief procedure, often used for penalty area and unplayable ball relief, has been simplified so that the player now drops their ball on the line, and the ball must come to rest within one club-length of where it is dropped.

Good Morning - it's another sunny day, so I would think the mowers will be out in full force on the course today. How good were the fairways and greens yesterday?
Thanks once again to Matt and his hardworking team.
We had a beautiful day yesterday to complete the remaining Trophy Events for 2022; and it was lovely to be able to go into the newly painted clubhouse and share in some social activity.
The trophy Events that were played yesterday were:-

WOMEN'S LIFESTYLE CUP - Winner - SALLY-ANNE FERGUSON

                                            WHAT HAPPY FACES!!

The Medal of Medals is an Honour Board Trophy, and the women who have won a BGC Medal during the year are eligible to compete in this prestigious event.
The contenders yesterday were:
Anne Keys, Barb Clayton, Jan Ferguson, Leonie Carroll, Ellen Goodwin & Penny McKenna. Pam Barker and Sonya Bleakley were away.

The Prosper Ellis Salver:-
Prosper Ellis was Bowral Golf Club's first Honorary Life Member.
He and his wife lived at Winterslee, Burradoo. The Prosper Ellis Plate is played for at Bowral Golf Club every year.  Ellis died in Bowral on 29 July 1980, and his wife in 1967.
Prosper Ellis was known as a remodeller of existing golf courses, but his status as a leading amateur golfer led to major design commissions. His design work included remodelling The Australian Golf Club, Bonnie Doon Golf Club, Pymble Golf Club, Killara Golf Club, Castle Hill Golf Club, North Ryde Golf Club, Liverpool Golf Club, Avondale Golf Club, Blackheath Golf Club, Deniliquin Golf Club, Chatswood Golf Club, Tamworth Golf Club, Merewether Golf Club and Kogarah Golf Club. In the 1960s he redesigned the Coolamon Golf Club, introducing new water and substantial planting. His major design commissions include Federal Golf Club (1946), Belmont Golf Club (1952), Windsor Golf Club (1963), Woollahra Golf Club (1960)[and Camden Valley Golf Resort (1964).Other designs are Muswellbrook Golf Club's extension by 12 holes (1964), Toronto Golf Links between 1968 and 1982, Nelson Bay Golf & Country Club's second 9 holes (1970) and Mittagong-Highlands Golf Club (1972). Another major Trophy Event was played on Tuesday - THE HASTINGS & MEG CLARK TROPHY. This is a knockout event. The final was played between Jane Clifford & Annie Geddes - JANE CLIFFORD WON ON THE 19TH!!!!

• ROCKY ROAD -  What a great book, and what a good idea for a Chrissie present.  Robert Wainwright’s  ‘Rocky Road’ is all about the Darrell Lea dynasty and is fascinating reading. Combine it with a box of Darrell Lea Rocky Road (available from pharmacy’s (and I think Big W) and you have a great present.  Also good reading is his ‘Enid’ which is about the Lindeman dynasty so a bottle of their wine would work well.  Sheila is another one he wrote about and it is all about Sheila Chisholm, daughter of racehorse breeder, Harry Chisholm of Goulburn Plains. Not sure what to include with that……the mind boggles!
  

 

• ALDI – I  just can’t finish the Winners for the year without an Aldi ‘must’.  The Mocha, Coffee Syrup & Cookie Crumb mini ice creams are compulsory buying, and are to die for, so stock up as they may not be a regular item.  The peppermint is good but the mocha is sensational.

Another Friday afternoon, another Blog! Where do the weeks go - maybe it's just that we are getting older that time is really flying!
A huge thank you to all of you who have played your knockout matches - we have only 4 more to go! The Hastings & Meg Clark Trophy is at the final stage, and there are only 3 matches to go in The Challenge Bowl. It certainly looks as though we are going to get all the matches finalised by The Annual Meeting & Presentation Day.
Well done!!

Yesterday, 8 Bowral women travelled to Canberra to play in The Canberra Shield. It was a glorious day, although a trifle chilly at 6.00am when we left! Royal Canberra Golf Club was in terrific condition -  We had run! We had soft bunkers! We had very fast greens, but unfortunately, most of us did not have our "A" game with us!
However, off the bench came Chris Hill who was triumphant in her match, winning 3/2. Our gorgeous "young gun", Sally-Anne Ferguson, also showed us how it was done by winning her match 4/3. Well done the two of you.
The other 6 girls did not do so well, but we tried very hard and had a wonderful day. Thanks Royal Canberra and CSGA for having us.

The Annual Meeting and Presentation of Trophies is fast approaching - Thursday 24th November @ 2.00pm. We hope to see as many of you there as possible - especially if you are receiving a Trophy!
There is an apologies sheet out in the Locker Room, for any women not able to be present.
Nomination forms for Committee positions are also available - fill out your form and pop it into the box on the small table inside the door. It would be great to see the box and board full in the coming weeks!

The Thursday after The Annual meeting is CLOSING DAY - 1st December. This is a day when we can dress up in funny clothes and win prizes! Make sure you have got your team together and your names down on the booking sheet. It is a mini shotgun start @ 9.00am - so you can choose which hole you would like to start on.
There will be all sorts of extra comps on the day, fun activities, champagne etc etc.

There will also be a Raffle - prizes are hampers - 1 golf hamper, 1 food hamper, 1 beauty hamper. We would love your donations if possible - there are 3 boxes on the table in the Locker Room for you to pop your donations in to. Many thanks, in advance, for your generosity!!
