I have finally remembered how to copy a table to the blog. So here it is. Don't forget more players are always welcome. Please contact me or the pro-shop.
One of our quiz questions related to action regarding a red stake marking a penalty area. Can you take relief or not?
If you refer to the local rules on the back of the BGC scorecard you will see that all stakes are classified as "Immovable Obstructions". Rule 16.1a allows relief from Abnormal Course Conditions (including Immovable Obstructions) if it interferes with your stance or swing. But - there is always a but - if you read on further you will find that there is no free relief when your ball is in a Penalty Area. As always you may take relief from a penalty area by taking a 1 stroke penalty (see Rule 17).
So can you take free relief from a red stake? - it depends - Are you inside (no) or outside (yes) the penalty area.
Another query was what happens if you accidently move your ball on the putting green? This happened to one of our players when looking at the hole and taking a practice swing.
See Rule 13.1d When Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on Putting Green. This rule tells us that there is no penalty for accidently causing the ball to move. This applies regardless of whether it was the player, opponent or another player who accidently caused the ball to move. The player must replace the ball on its original spot or place a ball-marker to mark that original spot.
What a difference a bit of rain makes. We obviously all forgot to allow for less run with the highest individual score on the day being Jenny Ogg (22) with 29 points.
27 players (9 teams) turned out for this event with the team event the aggregate of the team's three stableford scores.
The winning team with 73 points was Sonya Bleakley (38), Noela McMurray (40) and Marg Horwitz (17). Well done!
Runners-up with 71 points were Pam Barker (19), Anne Vitou (33) and Leonie Carroll (23).
NTP 2nd shot 4th was Jenny Ogg.

Don't forget that with the new World Handicapping System going live (we hope) at the end of the week there will not be any handicapping of events before next Saturday.
