Women's Golf News

What a fabulous way to start our 2022 season! 48 gorgeous gals put on their best yellow or blue outfits on Thursday for the Women's Opening Day.
The sun was shining, balloons were swaying in the breeze, and there were so many happy faces around. Thanks to all of you for making the day such a success.
A special thanks to our President - Sue, for making sure that the course and clubhouse was decorated beautifully, and, of course, to Helen for the amazing blue and yellow flowers. Also thanks to Vice Captain Jill for organising our new initiative .... The Sandwich Board, which was jam packed with all the information you needed for the day.
The course played quite hard on Thursday, but a big thanks to Matt for getting it into the best shape he possibly could. I think the mowers will be chewing up a few balls that were lost in the grass!
What an absolute thrill to come in for such a scrumptious lunch that our lovely Regina had prepared ...That Salad! That Panna Cotta!! Thank you Regina x

Virginia is putting together Educational afternoons of GOLF STUFF for everyone to attend. How good is that?
We are playing golf for the enjoyment of the game and the added benefits it brings – social interaction, laughing and having fun with our friends, and enjoying the occasional win in events.

SPECIAL EVENTS PAYMENTS
Please pay your $30 for the special events at the Clubhouse till. This is for GNSW Medals, GNSW Bowl, Challenge Bowl etc.

PRESENTATION NIGHT - SATURDAY 19TH FEBRUARY
This is going to be a special night where we celebrate the success of our Major Trophy Winners. Please come along and support those who have performed so well during the year. See Tim or Sally to put your names down.

You might have noticed on the Timesheets, that there is a little "I" button next to the event. If you click on this, the ToC (Terms of Competition) will appear. This is an excellent tool that MiClub has in its software.
The Terms of Competition for all this year's events are at the side of this Blog - have a look so that you know what type of competition you are playing.

OPENING DAY
It's always exciting on Opening Day as we give out some major trophies that cannot be decided by our Annual Meeting. This year we were honoured to have Noela McMurray present the Jean Derrin Trophy for Most Improved Handicap for 2021 and The Saturday Cup 2021. Noela does a lot of work behind the scenes, working out the numbers .... Thanks Noela.

The Event of the day was THE PRESIDENT V CAPTAIN TROPHY. For the first time in a VERY LONG TIME the winning team was THE CAPTAIN'S TEAM. WELL DONE CAPTAIN'S TEAM.
The winning pair on the day with 46 points were Di Lindsay & Virginia Wozniak.
Runners Up were Julie Hayden & Jill Scott with 41 points.
It was a thrill to receive the trophy ...... AT LAST, from Sue!!

On Sunday 13th February there is THE INAUGURAL STUART DENHOLM MEMORIAL TROPHY- single Stableford.
Stuart worked in the Pro Shop for many years and was a fantastic employee and ambassador for Bowral Golf Club.

Let's hope this dry weather continues and we can play lots of golf in the next few weeks. Looking forward to seeing you all out on the course and in the Clubhouse.

I am sure we will be tuned into watching our favourite sportswoman - ASH BARTY, PLAYING FOR THE AUSSIE OPEN TITLE TONIGHT. GO ASH!!

Well we are almost ready to kick off our golfing year. Next Thursday 27th January is our Opening Day - let's hope we have fine weather for the 48 women who have put their names down to play.
The draw is on the computer - so check what hole you are on and with whom you are playing. If you are on an outlying hole, you can pay and pick up your card on Wednesday from the Pro Shop - $17.50 (golf), $20.00 (lunch).
DON'T FORGET, YOU CAN PAY YOUR $30 FOR THE SPECIAL EVENTS EITHER AT THE PRO SHOP OR THE CLUBHOUSE.
If you are on the President's Team - please wearing something BLUE, if you are on the Captain's Team - please wear something YELLOW.
After golf, we will be having a lovely lunch, followed by presentations of the various Trophies that were decided over the Summer Break ......so stay around.

DAILY RESULTS
We had no women playing golf this week due the the rain and course conditions.
Today, 3 gals went out and Ellen Neale won the Stroke round with an 85 Nett. Well done Ellen.

The Challenge Bowl Sign-Up sheet is in the Locker Room. This is a very prestigious event which lasts most of the year. The ToC for the Challenge Bowl is on the Noticeboard - please have a read so you understand the Rules and Conditions.
You will also notice quite a few other sign-up sheets - Pennants, CSGA Opening Day, Goulburn Open Day etc. See flyers at the bottom.

For some of us who think that new clubs will help our golf game (that's definitely me), Kevin has organised the following fitting days --- put the dates in your diary!! Please book at the Pro Shop.

Cobra Monday, February 21st, 10- 3 pm

There will be a lot more information coming your way regarding Clinics, Rules Education and exciting events.
You will notice on Thursday, Opening Day, a new initiative that the Match Committee have put in place. There will be a sandwich board outside the Pro Shop with all the information you need about the event of the day. The ToC of the day will be there, what event we are playing ..... and more. SO PLEASE READ IT!!!!

Also looking forward to Captain V Captain Day on Wednesday 26th. Hopefully the girls will be triumphant this year!!!

Another week, another wet one! When is this rain going to stop? Looking at the weather charts, I am a little pessimistic about our ability to get on the course next week. However, there is not much we can do about it is there?
Your Committee and Match Committee have been busy little bees during the week. We have been having some great discussions as to how we can enhance your time at the golf club. Sorry, - we can't wave a magic wand and make you all champion golfers; but we can hopefully make your experience on the golf course, and in the clubhouse more enjoyable!!
The perameters for Divisions 1 and 2 in Medal rounds have changed...

DIVISION 3 - 30.7 - 54

TO ENCOURAGE MORE PLAYERS TO PLAY ON OUR MEDAL ROUND DAYS, WE ARE INTRODUCING A STABLEFORD COMPETITION AT THE END OF THE FIELD, FOR THOSE OF YOU (from any division) WHO DO NOT WANT TO PLAY STROKE.
Please note - if you are playing in the Stableford competition, you MUST enter your name at the end of the field, and notify the Pro Shop when you are paying. This allows the correct Scorecard to be produced for you.
This decision was made after consultation with ALL Division 3 players, Golf Australia, GNSW and the Pro Shop. LET'S GIVE IT A GO!!!

Jill Malone and I were in the locker room yesterday, when some girls came in from the course absolutely drenched!! Di Lindsay, Jan Ferguson, Anne Keys, Katrina Onishi and Ruth McErlane played a few holes in pretty ghastly conditions. Sue Harrison and Jane Clifford played 18 holes ....... Fantastic Effort girls!!

In the past, we have collected $30 from you at the start of the year for the Special Events that you participate in during the year. These events are - GNSW Medal Rounds, Goodwill Plate, GNSW Bowl, Challenge Bowl, Diabetes Trophy, Eclectic and Vets.
As we are rapidly becoming a cashless society, you may now pay your Special Events Payment either at the till in the Clubhouse or at The Pro Shop, using your bank cards.

Some of you have been asking about the Club Shirts that were ordered last year. Unfortunately they have not arrived as yet. We will let you know as soon as they do.

Well, again, there is not a lot of golf happening, and as mentioned above, it doesn't look all that promising for us to be golfing next week.
Due to the fact that several of the S.A.C Races have been cancelled, we will determine the winner by taking the BEST 4 scores not 6.

Welcome to the first Blog of 2022. Do hope all of you had a great Christmas and New Year. Also a BIG welcome to all the new members - looking forward to a great golfing year.
The above image, courtesy of Tim Davis, is a tad depressing isn't it? This is meant to be Summer in Australia..... oh well we will just have to put up with it, as there is not much we can do. LA NINA - GO AWAY!!! Hardly halcyon days!!!

The S.A.C Race has been slightly affected by the weather over the past week or so, but, when played, the gals have been getting some great scores - 40pts, 38pts, 35pts etc. Well done! It might be a different story next week - if the course is open, as the ground will be nice and soggy again.

Our Opening Day is on Thursday 27th January - President's Team V Captain's Team.
Please put your names down on the sign up sheet in the locker room by 20TH JANUARY 2022. Sue and I will then choose the teams, advise you of which team you are on, and enter them on the timesheet.
If you are on the President's Team, please wear blue. If you are on the Captain's Team, please wear yellow.

Please put your names down on the timesheet for the Captain V Captain Day on Wednesday 26th January - Australia Day. It's always a fun day - and we will try to beat the men this year girls!! Sign up!!
The Women's Lifestyle Cup will also be played on this day - so if you are a Lifestyle member, please enter the event.

PENNANTS 2022
The sign-up sheets are in the locker room for both Plate Pennants and Bronze Shield Pennant Teams. It is a terrific thing to do to represent your Club and you get to play some fantastic courses in Canberra and surrounds. IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION RE PENNANTS, PLEASE SEE VIRGINIA OR MYSELF.

BRIDGE
Lessons commence Friday 14th at 9.30 am at Club.
Joan Power is the teacher - she has a good reputation in bridge circles and is experienced as an instructor.
Cost is $20 per lesson for 6 lessons or $100 in one payment.
Anyone wishing to attend can either phone Joan on 48613755 or just turn up on the day for a "trial" run.
There are 13 starters at this stage.
