Here is an updated draw for Thursday.  Only minimal changes.  For some reason we still have not been able to get the draw into the system - the pro-shop is still working on it.
Remember 08:30 hit off from your relevant tee and we are playing 16 holes (not 8 & 9).

Payment for Special Events
In line with other years we will be collecting $35 from players for the special events during the year.  Please see the list on the right.

Anne Geddes will be collecting the money from you and if you can manage the right change it would be appreciated.

1st Medal Round Thursday 14 February
Again we have had a problem loading the booking sheet into the system.  There is now a hard copy booking sheet in the locker room.  The players already listed into the computer have been added to the sheet.  A draw will be prepared on the Monday prior.  Don't forget we will be playing from 2 tees - Divisions 1 & 3 from the 1st and Division 2 from the 10th.  This allows us all to be in together for lunch.

New Local Rule for Ball Out of Bounds
Last Thursday the Board approved the introduction of the local rule shown below.  Hopefully this will help keep the game moving along.  While I have just shown the details for Out of Bounds this also applies if a ball is lost.  Please see the various noticeboards around the club as well as the Captain's Blog.

Here is the draw for Thursday.  It will also be loaded into the system on Tuesday.

Opening Day (Thursday 31 January)
Don't forget opening day on Thursday.  Thanks to all of you who have put your names on the sheet in the locker room.  President Barb and I will do the draw tomorrow afternoon.

Special Events 2019
As in other years we will start to collect monies from you on Thursday as payment for the special events during the year (Golf NSW, CSGA and Vets).  The fee this year remains at $35 for all events - you can of course choose to pay for only select events.  Details are attached to the right under Useful Information.

Rules Quiz
We had great fun with the rules quiz on Thursday after golf.  Multiple choice questions but quite a range of responses.  It certainly got us talking about the new rules which of course was what we wanted.  I will try and prepare another one for Tuesday.

Opening Day (Thursday 31 January)
Opening Day will be upon us sooner than we think.  The event is a 4BBB in teams of 2 representing either the President (Blue) or Captain (Yellow/Gold).  There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 from a limited number of tees depending on the numbers.

Golf and lunch is $37.50 payable at the pro-shop.  There is a booking sheet in the locker room.  President and Captain will select the teams a few days prior.

Lunch will be quiche and salad with a fruit platter (or similar) which proved very popular last year.  Lunch only members are also welcome.  Please book and pay at the bar so the kitchen is able to cater accordingly.

Three trophies will be presented on the day-

• Jean Derrin Jug for most reduced handicap (Perpetual Trophy)
• Saturday Ladies Stroke (Perpetual Trophy)
• Summer Aggregate Stableford

Single Stroke (Saturday 19 January)
The first Saturday Stroke round for 2019 saw 12 players taking advantage of the much cooler (almost misty) day.  This is the first round of the Saturday Ladies Stroke Trophy event for 2019.  All members with 7 day playing privileges  (excluding Country Members) are eligible for this event.  Points are awarded (3 to winner, 2 for runner-up and 1 for third placegetter) and the best aggregate total at 31 December 2019 wins.  There is at least one Saturday stroke round per month on the day the men compete for their monthly medals as well as couple of additional rounds during the year as per the calendar.

Single Stableford (Thursday 17 January)
Three hardy starters hit off at 7:30 and missed most of the hot weather.  A breeze that came up when we arrived at the 10th helped a lot.  President Barb was playing the best of us all but was injured during the round and couldn't finish.  The playing conditions could not have been too bad with Margaret and I both reducing our handicaps.

Single Stableford (Tuesday 15 January)
26 players braved the day.  Don't forget you can always start early - just arrange with the pro-shop.  In fact 3 of us hit off at 7:00 and the conditions were lovely then.

We have welcomed many of our players back this week and it already seems a long time since Christmas.  Another hot week coming up but remember you can always start early.

New Rules 2019
Following on from my blog last week we have had some fruitful discussions after golf on Tuesday and Thursday.  We will keep this up during January.
Please also make sure you read David Stanley's (Club Captain) blog as there is also good information for you there - in particular about the remarking of penalty areas on the course.

There is nothing like a quiz to make sure we know our new rules so on Tuesday and Thursday this week we will have a quick quiz before the results presentations.  The discussion around the answers is always helpful.

Please also make sure you have a copy of the Player's Edition of the Rules of Golf in your golf bag.  They are available in the pro-shop and I have also put some in the locker room.

Survey
Following disappointing fields participating in last years Club Championships we have been undertaking a short survey asking for suggestions that may help increase the fields.  Your Match Committee will be discussing the results on Tuesday but you are still welcome to respond if you have not done so already.  There are forms available in the locker room.

Summer Aggregate Competition (SAC)
There are still a couple of rounds to go so make sure you come and play if you still need more scores to get to the required six stableford rounds.  Don't forget the online calendar is always the most up to date place to check on our golf program.

Here are the results from our recent games.  Pam Barker has certainly started the year with a bang with a mention in dispatches in each game.  The rest of us need to pull up our socks and perhaps actually do some practice!

15 players experienced almost perfect golfing conditions - not too hot - but the flies were very pesky.

15 players on what turned into a very hot and humid day.  Starting early helps though.

6 hardy players managed to cope with an extremely hot day.
Winner - Pam Barker (20) with 35 points must have been playing on a different course to the other players.

Single Stableford (Thursday 3 January)
10 players for our first golfing day of the new year.  Some good scores meant some of the handicaps moved in the right direction.

Happy New Year everyone.  I hope you had a happy Christmas and are now coping with the heat for the start of the golfing year.

One of our New Year's resolutions must be learning the new golf rules that came into effect on the 1st January.  The main changes have simplified some of the rules and are designed to speed up play.

I have included a summary of some of the main changes below. 
It is your responsibility to be aware of the rules and your Committee will do everything we can to help.
Make sure you carry a copy of the new Rules of Golf book.
While playing this month, talk to your playing partners about the new rules - help each other learn.
We will have a some quizzes and discussion after golf on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Dropping the ball

• Drop from knee height (not from shoulder height).
• The area of relief is based on the longest club in your bag (except putter).
• Must now drop and play from the relief area - ie if the ball rolls out of the relief area you must drop again.
• When dropping back-on-the-line, your ball cannot be played from nearer the hole.

Searching for the ball

• You are allowed only 3 minutes to search for your ball - down from the current 5 minutes.  Make sure to check the time before you start searching.
• If you accidently move the ball when searching for it - replace it without penalty.

On the green

• There is no penalty if your ball hits the flagstick when you have chosen to leave it in the hole.  This is designed to help speed up play.
  
• You may repair spike damage and other shoe damage on the putting green.
  
• No penalty if you accidently move the ball on the putting green.  The ball must be replaced in its original position.
  
• If the ball marked, lifted and replaced on the putting green is then moved by wind to another position - replace the ball on the original spot.
  

Penalty areas

• Penalty areas replace water hazards. You can move loose impediments, ground your club and take practice swings in penalty areas just as you can on the fairway or in the rough.
  
• You can't take relief from a penalty area unless you are at least 95% certain your ball is in the penalty area.  If not certain you must consider the ball lost and play from original position with a one stroke penalty (stroke and distance).
  

Bunkers

• You may now move loose impediments.
  
• You cannot touch the sand with your club in the area right in front of or right behind the ball, during your back swing or while taking practice swings.
  
• If you consider your ball unplayable, you now have an extra option available.  For 2 penalty strokes you may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the spot of the original ball.
  

Other

• Free relief is allowed if your ball is embedded on the fairway or in the rough.  (Embedded means that part of your ball is below the level of the ground).  This relief only applies if the ball is in its own pitch mark - not if the poor lie is a result of another player's stroke ie a pitch mark.
  
• There is now no penalty for a double hit - it only counts as one stroke.
  
• No penalty if your ball accidently hits you or your equipment after your stroke.
  
• You cannot have your caddie or your partner standing behind you once you begin taking your stance.
  
• Pace of play - it is recommended that you take no longer than 40 seconds to make a stroke.  Ready golf is encouraged.
