It was great to have 36 ladies playing today in this event. Winners of the Daily event were Sue Olson and Gloria Campbell (69.5), who each win $25. Runners up,Alex Dowling and Helen Marin (71.5) won $15 each. Balls went to the next 6 pairs, down to 78. The top 8 pairs (unless they indicate otherwise) will continue to the Knockout phase over the next few months. NTP (2nd shot) on 4th winner was Jane Whittaker, and the Pro pin eluded everyone so will Jackpot to next Tuesday ($27.50). Saturday Stableford: Ellen Neale scooped the pool in the Par round, finishing square with the card and claiming the NTP 2nd shot on 15th. Noela McMurray was runner up (-1) out of the 11 players. Saturday numbers are getting stronger, with a record 18 last weekend! Our first club medallists for 2018 were decided today. Congratulations to : Division 1: Jill Scott (94/nett 74) Division 3: Carole Turpie (112/Nett79) As there was a tie in Division 2, the Club Medal winner will be decided in a playoff at the next Thursday Stroke round (March 22nd), between Andrea Tomlin (102/Nett76) and Rosemary Downing (108/Nett76). Andrea was awarded the $20 winner’s voucher on the day on a count back. Jill, Andrea and Carole also had the best Scratch scores in their respective divisions, and as all are “paid up” Veterans, they won that prize too! The extra competition of the day was ‘Counting putts’, and here a few different names emerged. Anne Vitou was the best of the day with just 24 putts to win Division 3, Jenny Ogg won Division 2 with 26, and Jill completed the Quadrella in Division 1, winning with 27. The pro pin for $40 was won by Barbara Clayton on the 14th hole! Tuesday’s 3BBB Stableford saw the final group in, produce the winning card of 45 points: Leonie Carroll, Carol Humphreys and Pat Donoghue. Barb Clayton won NTP (2nd shot) on 4th and Chris Hill the Pro pin ($32.50). Saturday Stableford: Louise Dally continued her good form with 35 points, from Jan Deane (33). Thursday: Two weeks into the ‘serious’ golfing year and already we are competing for a second trophy. Today was round one of the Donkin Cup, an aggregate Stableford over two rounds, the next round being scheduled for 19th July. 32 players took part, so we could award daily prizes over two divisions. Newcomer Ruth Bailey posted the ‘best of the day’ round of 36 points, followed closely by Cathy Maule on 35 points. Best of Division 1 was Barbara Clayton (33) from Leonie Carroll (32). Barbara also collected the pro pin money on 14th of $32.50. Ellen Neale and Marion Tyree were winners of the Drive and Pitch on 12th for Div 1&2 respectively. Tuesday’s 3 person Ambrose was popular, and a fantastic score of 61 5/6ths from Cathy Maule, Ellie Scott and Netti Buchanan cleaned up the field! Louise Dally had a good day, anchoring the runner-up team with Judy Windybank and Marion Tyree, and scooping the “Jackpot” Pro Pin of $75 as well as the NTP on 14th. Lyn Solness won Saturday’s Stroke round with a nett 69. Medal Round – 15th February – The draw is done and on the website. Late entries can play at the end of the field, unless a space is available within their division. Please contact the Pro shop or Captain with additions or withdrawals. Barbara Clayton Women’s Captain Opening Day – President v Captain trophy What a fabulous day! 48 players, our biggest field for a while, enjoyed cool and ideal conditions today. Most players turned out in their chosen outfits of Blue and Gold, except Sandy our fashion leader, who has declared ‘beige’ the new blue! Thanks to everyone for your cooperation in making it a ‘smooth’ day, a promising start to our new golfing year. It was the Gold team who came out on top, a mere 3 points separating the Presidents total from the Captains 424 to 421…! Best teams of the day were both representing the Captain- Sue Harrison and Prue Taylor winning on a count back from Chris Hill and newcomer Ruth Baillie, with 41 points. They collected $25 each as winners and $20 each for runners up. Chris Hill won the NTP on 6th hole, and Leonie Carroll the 2nd shot NTP on 15th hole. All members of the WINNING CAPTAIN”S TEAM received a ball- well done, ladies!! And commiserations to the new President Pam, but it was really the “Captain’s turn’ after a few years where the Blues have dominated. Two special 2017 trophies were presented: Jean Derrin Jug (Most Reduced Handicap in the calendar year- Michelle Di Natale (28 to 15).
