AGM: Just a reminder that the Annual General Meeting of the BGC is on Friday night at 6pm. Please come along to support your club, its directors, and especially our Lady President, Carole Turpie in her role as a member of the Board of the club.

There has been a lot of golf in the past week!

• Today featured a game of Foursomes, which resulted in a win for Carole Turpie and Sue Olson (28.5) with net 72.5. Cathy Maule and Jenny Ogg (29) finished close behind with net 73 and also won the Drive and Pitch on 15th hole. Balls went to 5 pairs down to 80 points.

         We welcomed twin sisters Di and Sonya from NSWGC into our field today.

• Tuesday was a smaller field of 16 players following the Anzac Day golf on Monday afternoon. It turned into a ‘Chris Hill’ Day, as she took out the win with 36 stableford points, the NTP (2nd shot) on 12th and the pro pin. Well Done Chris!
• Jan Southon was a member of the winning 4BBB teams event on Anzac Day, while Faye Frith took out Saturday’s Stableford event (32 points) on a count back from Anne Geddes. Wendy Burke won the NTP 2nd shot on 12th hole.

 
Pennants: The team of Jan Deane, Pam Barker, Carol Warner, Barb Clayton and Cathy Maule had a 4-1 win last Friday at Gold Creek GC to propel them to the lead for the  point score in the Bronze Shield competition. The last round is on this week at Queanbeyan GC, playing against Yass. Our team is Pam, Helen, Anne G, Chris and Barb. Go team!
We enjoyed some company, (perhaps an audience?) at Gold Creek last week- at least it makes for an enjoyable round of golf! See photos below...

​What a stunning day for our annual Invitation Day! (I wish I could take credit for that one…)
We had 52 players including 21 visitors from Moss Vale, Goulburn, Highlands, Mt Broughton, Royal Canberra, Royal Sydney, St Michaels, and Pennant Hills Golf Clubs.
 
The game was a team event of 4 players, with 2 players scoring on holes 1-6, three players scoring on 7-12, and 4 to score on 13-18.
 
It was tight at the top, with 98 points eventually securing the win from teams on 97 and 96!
The winning combination was Annelise King, Nettie Buchanan (PHGC), Leonie Poulton (MVGC) and Barbara Clayton.
Runners up were Anne Geddes, Sarah Hawthorne (MVGC), Uschi Eriksson and Kelly Weir (GGC).
 
The random draw prize of four donated bottles of wine went to the lucky team of Jenny Alexander, Jan Lane, Jocelyn Mackay and Yo Derham.
 
Wendy Godbolt (HGC) won the massive pro pin of $108,while another visitor Jane Shirlow (MVGC) won both Longest drive and NTP 2nd shot on 15th. Pam Barker was the straightest driver on 1st hole and Shirley Brereton NTP on 6th hole.
Balls went to four teams, down to 91 points.
 
All in all it was a fun day with lots of chatter, laughter and some good golf ,judging by the high scores! The course was in magnificent condition and the weather and autumnal colours made for a great day out on the course.
 
Thanks to everyone for supporting this day and to the staff for our lunch and bar service.

​Stableford Rounds:
A visitor from Forbes, Judy Hodge joined 19 locals today for the Stableford round. Division 1 (0-26) winner on a count back was Helen Chadwick (25) from Mardi Svensson(16) on 29 points.
Division 2 had the high scoring players with Anne Spiden (42) continuing her good form with 41 points! Shirley Brereton(36) clocked up 35 points for runner up.
 
Jenny Ogg was NTP on 12th hole, and Jan Deane won today’s pro pin for $21.
 
Pam Barker won Saturday’s Stableford with 32 points, and Helen Chadwick the NTP on 12th hole (2nd shot).
 
Pennants:
 
The team won again last Friday at Murrumbidgee GC playing the host team- an amazing effort from Pam, Helen, Jan D, Chris and Anne G.
This week the team of Pam, Carol Warner, Jan D, Barbara and Cathy travel to Gold Creek GC, so best wishes go with them for continuing good match play.
 
But first, there is Invitation Day:
 
We now have 52 players for Thursday’s Invitation Day, 4 person Irish team event.
 
With such a great turnout the club has arranged a special menu, which can be prepaid at the pro shop before playing: $12.50 for soup and mixed sandwiches. This will help us all get lunch more quickly after our game, saving queues at the bar.
Tables of 8 will be set up in the main area of the golf club (Bridge will be played in the middle room). 
Also, in view of the large number of players I have decided to donate a special ‘random’ draw prize of four bottles of wine for a team on the day. (Of course, you need to be there at lunch to win this special prize!)
This will be in addition to the Club prizes for Winning team, Runners-up team, and daily prizes for NTP, straightest and longest drives…so good luck and enjoy your game with your guests. 
 
There are still players wishing to play, so please ring me if you’re still looking for a game (or have to withdraw).
Don’t forget to inform your visitor of your tee off hole – and it is a shotgun start, 8.30 for 9am.

Invitation Day:
 
We have a great turnout of 48 players for next Thursday’s Invitation Day, including 18 visitors. After a scramble to obtain some missing Golf link numbers, we have put all entrants and their tee- off holes into the computer.
 
Please visit the website to know your tee- off hole and most importantly, please inform your visitor! It’s a shotgun start, 8.30 for 9am.
 
For ladies who are new to Invitation Day, it is usual protocol for members to contribute to the cost of their visitors green fees ($15).  We anticipate all players will join us for lunch in the clubhouse afterwards -Tables of 8 will be set, so two groups of four will combine for after golf celebrations (ordering will be from the daily menu).
 
Late entries are accepted If you would like to play and aren’t yet registered, - please call me and I will try to gather some extra players to help make a team of 4.
 
And Good luck to the Pennants team playing at Murrumbidgee GC tomorrow!

TUESDAY PAR:
Today’s winner was Leah Boyd with a good result of all ‘square’.
Pam Barker and Faye Frith were next on -1, followed by Carol Warner (-2) , Sue Olson and Anne Spiden , both -3.
NTP on 12th was Jan Ferguson and Faye won the $15 Pro pin.
 
Saturday Stableford: Only 4 ladies played, but Irene Gilbert with 27 points was good enough to win.
 
The Bronze Shield Pennants team were not lucky in their new shirts, going down 4-1 to Royal Canberra GC on Friday at RMC GC. We are now sharing the lead in our half of the draw with Royal Canberra so will have to play well from here on, to keep in the finals hunt.

Invitation Day:
We would like some more names for the Invitation (also= Fun !) Day on 21st April – even if you don’t yet have a visitor, please consider playing and enter your name on the sheet. It’s a 4 person team event, 2 sores on holes 1-6, 3 scores for holes 7-12, and 4 scores on the remainder. There are extra competitions on the day too!
A ‘Shotgun’ start means we will all be in for lunch and social time together, so hurry in and sign up!
The committee will finalise the tee off holes on Thursday after the Monthly Medal round.
 
Monthly Medal – Thursday 14th April :
There are a few gaps in the field if anyone still wishes to play, please phone, email or message me!
All players should arrive at least 15 minutes early in case we have to move you up on the day, please.
 
“Challenge Bowl” Singles Knockout – all first round matches must be played by 26th April. There are still a couple of matches pending…

​,Thursday Stableford:
 Carol Warner is on a winning streak, notching up another win today, with 34 points from Jenny Ogg (30pts). Carol also won the Drive and Pitch on 12th hole.
 
Jane Clifford took out Division 2 with 31 points from Cathy Maule (30 c/b). Bev Kemp Clayton made the winners list for the Drive and Pitch. Balls went to 25 , and included our visitor from Warringah GC, Carol Richman.
 
The draw for the April Monthly Medal for Thursday 14th April  was done today and should be on the computer very shortly. Late entries can be accepted, but only through the captain please.
 
The Bronze Shield Pennants team will turn out in the new club shirt tomorrow after the committee approved the wearing of the new navy with gold logo, representative shirt. Good luck to the team at RMC Canberra.
Chris is pressuring us hard to do well, so we will do our very, very best !!

​The result of today’s Canadian Foursomes was a win to the formidable combination of Carol Warner and Mardi Svensson, off a handicap of just 12¾, for a nett 73 ¼.
Runners up were Barbara Clayton and Anne Spiden (Handicap 23 5/8) with Nett 74 3/8.
 
Pam Barker won the pro pin of $36.
 
Saturday Golf: 
Anne Geddes had a good day in the stroke round - nett 66 (87/21).Congrats Anne! 
Helen Chadwick was NTP (2nd shot) on 15th hole, and balls went to Pam Barker,  Jenny Ogg, and Maggie McKenzie.

10 hole Competition:
We had three starters today, with Trish Allen the winner, 10 points!
And New players…
Sandy Short accompanied some new players today to get a scorecard in for handicapping purposes. And on that note:
We would really appreciative any help from members who would be willing to accompany new players to get their handicaps, or those seeking to gain some competition experience. Barbara Westwood used to do this job, but any or all of us could do it!
Hence we have a sheet in the locker room for volunteers interested In helping out …please consider putting your name down- the more the merrier and with enough names we could do a roster and you wouldn’t have to do it every week!

The club has complimentary pitch mark repairers for members available at the pro shop…please make sure you collect one and use it when required!
