Bernadette Brown Memorial Trophy (Thursday 27 June)
This event is held on the Thursday nearest the anniversary of Bernadette's death (26 June) with players competing in a Single Stableford event for a beautiful trophy donated by Bernadette's husband Kevin.  Bernadette was very active in the club and was a very popular President.  

It was wonderful to see a field of 34 players competing.  This was one of our best fields this year.  A hint of damp mist at the beginning but in the end a wonderful day - not that the scores for the majority of players reflected this.

Barb Mead (34) was the winner with 33 points on a count-back from Judy Windybank (23).  Congratulations to you both for providing such a close result.

As we had more than 30 players the daily competition was held in 2 divisions.  

Division 1 - Daily handicaps 0-26

Single Stableford (Tuesday 25 June)
23 players found the going pretty tough with only one player achieving 30 stableford points.  Still we all love a challenge!!!

D&P 4th hole - Chris Hill
Pro-pin - not won.  This was already a jackpot from last time so $57.50 will carry forward to next week.  Remember you have to be in it to win it!

Single Stableford (Saturday 22 June)
It is great to see that the good Saturday fields continue.  12 players this time even though five players were not available due to the final of the Jubilee Foursomes.

Next Week's Events
On Tuesday 2nd July we will be playing American Foursomes to acknowledge the USA Independence Day on the 4th July.  Let's make it a fun day so wear your Red, White and Blue.

Our next Medal round is on Thursday 4th July.  This is our 5th medal round for the year (of a total of 6) and the 3rd and final round of the President's Cup.  Remember that we don't have a draw anymore - just sign up via the computer.

Jubilee Foursomes Final (Saturday 22 June)
The finalists for this event Ellen Neale & Carole Byrnes versus Sue Flaxman & Jane Clifford enjoyed a very close match.  Always a good sign when the match goes to the 18th hole with Sue and Jane winning 2 up.  The day was very cold but luckily stayed dry.  Thanks to Noela McMurray for being the referee for the match.  A couple of times we had to check it was really Noela under all those rugs.

Clearly the coordinated outfits gave Sue & Jane the winning edge.

NSW Vets Country Championship Qualifying - (Thursday 20 June)
A very frosty morning greeted the 23 players for this single stroke event - see the photo below.

Jenny Ogg has been playing in Cowra and brought her winning form home with her.

This round was also the qualifying round for the NSW Vets Country Championship.  The results of our winners in each division are compared with those from other clubs with the state winners receiving vouchers from NSW Vets.

Colin Stamm Salver (Tuesday 18 June)
This annual interclub event has been held since 1984.  The trophy was donated by local pharmacist Colin Stamm in order to generate an ongoing "spirit of friendship" between clubs in the  Highlands.
Last year the event was washed out so we were a little nervous this year.  While it was a bit wet it was not enough to dampen the competitive spirit.
Thankyou to the 12 players that represented Bowral Golf Club - Carol Warner, Pam Barker, Leonie Carroll, Robyn McGinnes, Rosemary Downing, Noela McMurray, Chris Hill, Jane Clifford, Sharon Rowe, Sue Flaxman, Chris Levy and Barb Mead.
Six of our players played single match play games at Bowral, while three travelled to Highlands and three to Moss Vale.

Moss Vale were the overall winners with 17 points from Highlands on 11 and Bowral on 8 points.

The majority of players gathered at Bowral for lunch and a good time seemed to be had by all.  Thanks to Regina the kitchen was open and we received many compliments on the catering.

Hole in one on the 14th
One of the benefits of writing this blog is that I can tell you all about my excitement on Thursday 13th June.
I hit a good looking shot with my 7 wood and thought I might be in with a chance for the daily pro-pin.  When we went up to the green there was no sign of the ball - only a couple of white feathers through the back of the green.
When I found the ball in the hole, I am not sure who was the most excited, my playing partners Pam Barker and Anne Vitou or myself.
This was my first hole in one and first eagle.  Very exciting!!!!!!

Barbara McCarthy Memorial Trophy & Rosevale Plate (Thursday 13 June)
The qualifying rounds for these two events were held on Thursday with the top eight players in each category now going to the match play rounds.
The first round needs to be played by 28 July, the second by 1 September and the final by 29 September.

One of the "Quick Links" on the right gives you the latest results.  The "Current Results" is a copy of the results as prepared by the pro-shop so it also lists the winners of the pro-pin and any extra events on the day.

Colin Stamm Interclub Event (Tuesday 18 June)
If you are available to play please make sure your name is on the list in the locker room.  I need to send the names off to the other Captains tomorrow (11 June).
There will be a single stableford event for players not representing Bowral following the reserved match play slots.

Barbara McCarthy Memorial Trophy & Rosevale Plate (Thursday 13 June)
The qualifying rounds for these two events will be played on Thursday.  In each event -Divisions 1&2 for the Barbara McCarthy and Division 3 for the Rosevale Plate - The top eight qualifiers will move forward to the match play rounds.  Please see the updated Conditions of Play for these two events listed to the right under Useful Information.  The conditions include the deadlines for the match play rounds.

Ambrose Competitions
I have prepared a Conditions of Play for any Ambrose events we might have scheduled - starting with the 3 person Team event tomorrow.  Again please refer to the Useful Information section on the right.
There are a few different rules that may apply to playing Ambrose so these have been prepared so that it is as simple as possible and also all teams play under the same conditions.

Preferred Lies
While we do not need preferred lies at the moment, I am sure the time will come during winter when they will be needed.
The Club Match and Greens Committee has reviewed when relief may be taken and determined preferred lies will only apply when your ball comes to rest in a closely mown area on the course.  Closely mown areas are defined as fairways, teeing areas and fringe areas around the green.  Preferred lies will no longer apply to the rough.

Rakes in Bunkers
Please remember that after you have raked a bunker always place the rake into the bottom of the bunker.  This allows the ball belonging to the next victim to roll to the base of the bunker which allows a reasonable chance of getting out first time.
