Donkin Cup - Stableford (Thursday 29 August)
This annual trophy event is held over two rounds.  This year the first round was held on 7 February.  With a 6 months gap between rounds it means the final result is usually a nice surprise for the winner.
Our clear winner this year was Christine Levy (25) with an aggregate score of 63 points (R1 28 pts & R2 35pts).  Well done Chris.  Here is a photo of her receiving her trophy.  This will of course be presented again at our AGM once it has been engraved.

CSGA Foursomes Championships - Gold Creek (Sunday 25 August)
Three pairs travelled to Gold Creek to represent Bowral Golf Club at the CSGA Foursomes Championships.  Pam Barker & Carol Warner, Annie Geddes & Jan Deane and Sue Flaxman & Jane Clifford.
The course is a long walk but the weather was perfect.

I am delighted to announce that Annie Geddes and Jan Deane were the CSGA Division 1 Nett Champions with a nett 75.  What a great result and congratulations to you both.

Sue Flaxman won the NTP for Division 2.  A very tricky shot through a narrow gap between a bunker on one side and water on the other.

To take out three prizes from a field of 68 players (almost all from Canberra clubs) was a fantastic result.

Single Stableford (Thursday 29 August)
18 players on the day faced cold but fine conditions.  The jackets stayed on but overall good golf weather.

Canadian Foursomes (Tuesday 27 August)
Only 14 players today but the rain held off.

Single Stableford (Saturday 24 August)
9 Players contested today. Christine Levy (26) with 36 points gave a good indication of her good form to come later in the week.

Hi-Lo Foursomes (Thursday 22 August)
This fun event was recently added to our calendar.  We received a number of very positive feed back comments so hopefully this can become an annual event.
The idea was to combine players with a low handicap (0-26) with a player with a higher handicap (27-45).  The concept worked well and lots of new combinations had fun together.

New Sunday Competitions starting 1 September
Just a reminder that a new Sunday Stableford competition will commence from Sunday 1 September.  There is both Women's and Men's competitions.  You can just enter online.  This now means that there are competitions available every day except Mondays - just another benefit of being a member at BGC.

Craigieburn Golf Day (Tuesday 3 September)
As you are aware the course is closed on Tuesday 3 September for course renovation.  
Chris Hill has arranged a special alternative - playing 9 holes of golf at Craigieburn ($15) followed by a High Tea or lunch.  Prepayment for golf and high tea is required before the end of next week so please see Chris ASAP.

Challenge Bowl Final 2019
I had the privilege of acting as referee for the final of this event on Monday.  The conditions were challenging - sun, wind, cold and even a bit of hail. Thanks also to Chris Hill and Uschi Eriksson for braving the elements to watch the match.
Carol Warner (19) and Wilma Lung (41) played some really great golf in the conditions.  The results were very close all the way through with Carol finally winning 2up on the 17th.  Congratulations to both of you.  The formal trophy presentation will be made at the AGM on Thursday 10 October.

Rosevale Plate & Barbara McCarthy Trophy 2019
The finalists for these two trophy events have now been finalised - Uschi Eriksson and Rosemary Downing (Rosevale Plate) and Helen Chadwick and Margaret Horwitz (Barbara McCarthy Trophy).
Once the dates for these finals have been determined I will let you know so that you can come along and support our finalists.

Individual Par (Tuesday 20 August)
Only 12 players braved the extremely windy conditions.  There were some great scores and in fact 4 of the 12 players reduced their handicaps.
Winner - Andrea Tomlin (28) with -1.  A great result.

Single Stableford (Saturday 17 August)
The Saturday competition continues to be well support with 11 players.  The extra run on the course seems to be helping players achieve some good scoring.  9 of the 11 players scored 30 points or more.
Winner - Wendy Burke (24) with 40 points.  Wendy also won the D&P on the 15th - you can't get any closer than in the hole!

A great field of 33 players meant we had two divisions.

33 players produced some great team results.

Medal R6 - Captain's Trophy R3 - Single Stroke (Thursday 8 August)
21 players competed for the final opportunity to win a club medal in 2019.  Interesting conditions - sun, wind and rain all at seemingly random intervals.  Unfortunately we missed out on snow to complete the picture.

This now completes our medal rounds for the year.  All medal winners are eligible to compete for the Medal of Medals event scheduled for Thursday 7 November.  There were 14 individual medal winners during the year:

3 Person Coloured Ball Team Stableford (Tuesday 6 August)
Always a fun event.  We made sure that each team had a pink ball this time - no confusion with playing a range ball in error.
There were 9 teams and only the Captain's team failed to bring the ball back.  I hope the yabbies in the pond on the 13th enjoyed their lunch.

Rule Reminder
Please remember that not only do you need to keep track of your own score, you have the responsibility to ensure that the card you are marking is correct.  Please reacquaint your self with Rule 3 - The Competition - especially the following:

3.3b Scoring in Stroke Play
Marker's Responsibility. After each hole during the round, your marker should confirm the number of strokes you took on that hole and enter that gross score on your scorecard.
When the round has ended, your marker must certify the hole scores on your scorecard.

Time flies when you are having fun.  It has been a while since I updated the blog but there seems to have been so much on.

Wattle Day (Thursday 1 August)
This annual stableford event is always fun for members and visitors.  It was wonderful to see wattle out on some of the fairways and of course the decorations on the 1st tee, triple tee and also in the clubhouse made the day special.  Plenty of yellow or green outfits around the course as well.
We had 38 players including 11 visitors from Mount Broughton, Moss Vale, Highlands, Goulburn, Taralga, Royal Canberra and Gibraltar.
As well as vouchers, winners on the day received special wattle prizes - mugs, plates or tea towels.  Thanks to President Barbara Clayton for organising these.
Thanks to Anne Geddes for organising the raffle - a beautiful hamper - that raised $225 towards representative golf travel expenses.

The weather was perfect for golf but we did have a very frosty start.  Golf and then lunch inside by the fire made sure we beat the winter chills.

Golf NSW Goodwill Plate (Thursday 25 July)
This is an annual charity event run in conjunction with Golf NSW.  Included in the $35 special event payments you make at the beginning of the year is $2pp that we send off to Golf NSW to help towards development of Women's golf.

Conditions must have been pretty good as there were some great scores on the day.

Royal Canberra 2019 Women's Challenge Bowl (Thursday 25 July)
A team of four players - Carol Warner, Anne Geddes, Pam Barker and Jane Clifford travelled to Royal Canberra to represent Bowral in this very special annual event.

Teams of four play stableford with the best three scores combined for the team result.  19 Teams were represented with a geographic spread from Bowral in the North and Albury in the South.  Bowral came a very creditable 3rd (96 points) behind Braidwood (106 points) and Royal Canberra (98 points).
A single stableford event is played in conjunction and congratulations go to Pam Barker (34 points) for coming 3rd in Division 2.  Well done Pam!

It was -5 degrees at our 08:30 start time and the course was like a white winter wonderland.  Luckily no wind and the sun was out.

Goulburn Motor Neurone Disease Charity Day (Wednesday 24 July)
This annual charity day at Goulburn is always well attended.  This year 76 players played American Foursomes and a further 8 players played in a 9 hole stableford event.  Debbie Collins announced that more than $2,000 was raised on the day with $1,500+ being provided to further research into MND and $600 from the sale of merchandise sent to MND Australia to support people with the disease.
Bowral was well represented with 9 players making the trip.  Anne Keys won NTP on the 15th hole and Barbara Clayton and Chris Hill won balls in the ball rundown.
Sue Flaxman and Noela McMurray both won prizes in the very successful raffle.

CSGA Diabetes Trophy Qualifying (Thursday 18 July)
25 players in this single stroke event.  The top three players are eligible to represent Bowral Golf Club at next year's CSGA opening day.  The $2 that you have all paid as part of the $35 collected at the beginning of the year is sent off to the CSGA to support their official charity - Diabetes Australia.  As it is for charity we send off all the money we have collected whether you played on the day or not.

Special fun event now scheduled for Thursday 22 August
To get you in the mood ready for the foursomes championships next month we have scheduled a special event on Thursday the 22nd - The Hi/Lo Foursomes.
Pairs will consist of one player with a playing handicap in the 0-26 range and the other player with a handicap in the 27-45 range.  There is a booking sheet in the locker room so get your pairs together.  While I realise there were already 9 players booked for the normal stableford round these bookings will be cancelled and hopefully you will be happy to add your team to the booking sheet.
