Congratulations to Michelle Di Natale for her fabulous performance at the NSW Junior Championships & the Jack Newton Junior Golf State Age Championships.
This event was played over four rounds at courses in Newcastle. The final two days, Thursday and Friday in extreme conditions.
Michelle is now the Girls 13 Years Champion with a score of +36 after her four rounds. This was 12 strokes ahead of her nearest rival. Michelle also won the nett competition by 8 strokes.
While the State Age events are restricted to players from NSW and the ACT, the State Junior Championship is open to all players (including interstate or international) 17 years and younger. Michelle placed 31st in this event - even though she was one of the youngest players in the field.
Single Stableford (Thursday 11 July)
Only 10 players braved the extreme weather conditions with Barb Mead (33) scoring 35 points. She was clearly playing on a different course than the rest of the field. Congratulations Barb - you have now moved into B grade.
3 Person Ambrose (Tuesday 9 July)
26 players in the field including visitor Tina Wainwright from Federal.
Winners were Barb Clayton (19), Sandy Short (42) and Leonie Carroll (24) with a nett 71.
Single Stroke (Saturday 6 July)
13 players with Leonie Carroll (25) the daily winner with a nett 74. Well done Leonie. Jenny Ogg and Sue Harrison also earn points towards the 2019 Saturday Cup.
Rule Reminders
The extreme weather conditions on Thursday generated a bit of discussion at lunch time about what happens when the wind or a crow takes your ball - is this the same as the dog eating your homework?
Rule 13.1d When Your Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on Putting Green
There is no penalty if you, your opponent or another player in stroke play accidently moves your ball or ball-marker on the putting green. In this case you just replace the ball on its original spot.
If natural forces cause you ball on the putting green to move, where you must play from next depends on whether your ball had already been lifted and replaced on its original spot.
- If you have already lifted and replaced the ball and the wind then moves it, you must replace it on its original spot.
- If the ball has not already been lifted and replaced then the ball must be played from its new spot.
Rule 9.6 Ball Lifted or Moved by Outside Influence
If it is known or virtually certain (ie 95% sure) that an outside influence lifted or moved your ball there is no penalty - that naughty crow on the 8th hole stole my ball twice. The ball must be replaced on its original spot or if this is not known this must be estimated.
But: If it is not known or virtually certain (remember this means 95% sure) that the ball was lifted or moved by an outside influence and the ball is lost, the player must take stroke and distance relief under Rule 18.2.
Make sure you are familiar with the definitions section of the rule book. The full definition of Natural Forces and Outside Influences are both included there.
