Tuesday Golf: Canadian Foursomes
 
Chris Hill and Leonie Carroll were an amazing combination scoring a net 68 7/8, including a “Birdie 3” on the 3rd hole from 77metres out!
 
As their playing partners, Uschi and I felt very ‘ordinary’, but when all the results were in, our third place (77 1/8) behind Faye Frith and Marion Tyree(76) was credible enough. We realised just how well they had played!

Melbourne Cup Day is scheduled for Tuesday 3rd November, 8 for 8.30am Shotgun Start. Sign up sheet is on the Social noticeboard outside the ladies locker room.
Teams of 4 for an Irish Odds/Evens event (3 scores on odd numbered holes, 2 scores on even holes) with lunch to follow, $55 inclusive.
 Lots of prizes, including NTP, longest and straightest drives for men and women, Best Hats, Calcutta and Sweeps – so many chances to win, win win!!!
 
Claim the date: Combined  Christmas Cheer Event with Golf and Lunch for the three Highlands Clubs, Moss Vale, Bowral and Highlands will be held at Highlands on Tuesday 24th November …watch this space!

​What a difference a day makes….from warm, dry conditions  on Tuesday , back to rain, wind and cool weather today!!
 
It was a good test of how tough our golfers are, and one very ‘hardy’ golfer stood out.
We could safely describe today as ‘Pam Barker’s day’:
Club champion, Overall Nett Winner, and Pro-pin Jackpot victor (again!)
 
Congratulations Pam, from all of us. You put together three very consistent rounds and deserved to win. (97,89,97).
 
Runner up on a count back (over 18 holes) was Mardi Svennson, who had the best round of the day of 96 strokes.
 
Division 2: Club Champion is defending titleholder Anne Keys, with Runner Up Leonie Carroll (who also won todays scratch and nett event.)
 
Division 3: Club Champion is Jane Clifford , with Runner up Pat Donoghue.
Jane also was today’s scratch and nett winner.

Thank you to Pam for generously putting her pro-pin winnings on the bar today. It was nice to share a celebratory ‘toast’ to the winners, with all the players.
 
Finally, Thank you to all of you for your cooperation over the championship period. I appreciated that everyone complied with all the requests allowing the championships to be conducted fairly, legally and pleasantly! My first weeks as Captain have been very hectic, so I do appreciate your friendly compliance.

​ I look forward to some more ‘fun’ golf over the coming weeks, Canadian Foursomes next Tuesday and Melbourne Cup golf and lunch on Tuesday 3rd November (sheet on the club’s social noticeboard).

Club championships Round 2:
 
A pleasant, although warm day, especially for the later starters today...
 
Some nice scores were posted by championship contenders Pam Barker (89) and Anne Geddes(90), although only a few strokes separate the top group. And anything can happen on the final day…so good luck ladies, I hope your putts drop and your drives fly straight!
 
Likewise the leaders in Divisions 2 and 3 are neck and neck. The full board of cumulative results is on display in the locker room, and thanks to Noela for preparing this.

​Club Championships Round 3:
 
The draw for the final round on Thursday has been done and is on the computer.
As usual, please make any alterations through the captain only.
 
Once again, please be at or near the 1st tee at least two time slots before your scheduled tee time (that is, 15 minutes) in case of players withdrawing and the field being moved up.
 
Party Time:
At the conclusion of the Championships on Thursday, we would appreciate as many ladies as possible staying on for the presentation of trophies to our very best golfers.  It is a very important event on our calendar and the only competition played ‘off the stick’ to recognise our truly best players.
 
Please stay and support them! And maybe share a glass of ‘bubbles’  by way of celebration with all the players..

Club Championships Round 1:
 
Perfect weather today saw the course in great condition for the first round of our annual club championships. With the full course in play we were well and truly tested in this ‘silly’ game we call GOLF!
 
The Leader after round 1 is Stephne Whiteway with 93/nett75 closely followed by Jill Scott, the defending champion on 96/nett76.
 
Nett winners today were Stephne (Division 1), Jane Whittaker (73) in Division 2 and Pat Donoghue (76) for Division 3.
Runners up were Jill Scott, Wendy Burke (75) and Jan Southon(78) respectively.
 
Ball prizes for least Putts were Stephne, Wendy and Noela, which sort of shows that if you can putt, you’ve got a great chance of being a winner!
 
Scratch winners of a ball were Stephne, Anne Keys (Div2) and Pat Donoghue (Div3).
Balls went to 77 on a c/b : Annelise King, Faye Frith, Leonie Carroll, Pam Barker and Robyn McGinnes.
 
The Pro-pin was not won and jackpots to $117!
 
Club championships Round 2:
 
The draw has been done and is on the computer for next TUESDAY.
Once again, please make any alterations through the captain only.
 
Today, we had quite a few last minute withdrawals from the competition.
It is important that you notify the captain or the pro shop if you are unable to play on the day of competition.
Most importantly, it also means that every player must be at or near the 1st tee at least two time slots before their scheduled tee time (that is, 15 minutes) in case of players not turning up and the field being moved up, as it was today.
 
As the championships are played under strict conditions, which include the correct seeded order of play, all players should be ready to move up as necessary. Thank you for co-operating in this manner!
 
Rules Seminar:
 
It was great to see many women golfers at this seminar held by Golf NSW at our club last night.
 
We all learned many new applications of various rules, and were happy to implement our new found knowledge on the course today. And for those who stayed for the presentations today, we all benefitted from the sharing among the members of their newly acquired knowledge... Better be on your game, ladies!!

Tuesday Golf:
 
26 players took to the course today in preparation for the upcoming championships., with some impressive results. We hope they haven’t used all their good shots before Thursday!
Uschi Eriksson (38) was our winner with 44 points (no, that’s not a typo!)
Shirley Brereton was runner-up with 41 points. Balls went to Leonie Carroll, Anne Geddes, Jane Clifford, Pauline Cutchey, and Chris Hill.
Leah Boyd was NTP 2nd shot on 12th, and Pauline won the Pro-pin on 14th of $24.
 
Club Championships:
The first round (seeded) draw is on the computer with changes only to be made via the captain please. Any players wishing to play just the daily competition are welcome to do so; you don’t have to play every round to be eligible for daily prizes.
All championship rounds will be played off the plates (the red markers will be in those positions).
Special Rules for the GUR:
The newly seeded grass areas on the 5th,13th, 16th and 17th  will be treated as GUR with no access by foot or cart allowed. DO not attempt to retrieve your ball (if suitably marked and identifiable, it will be returned to you later by the Green staff).
Three DROP ZONES will be in place, one on each side of the GUR and one at the front. You should choose the closest drop zone (nearest point of relief) to where your ball lies in the GUR.
You may use the one in front of the GUR if it is the closest one to where your ball lies, despite it meaning you will be dropping ‘closer to the hole’.
 
Rosevale Plate:
 
Rosemary Downing and Shirley Brereton played the final of the Rosevale Plate (Div 3) Match play event on Friday. Rosemary was the victor 2/1 in a match that saw neither player more than a hole up at any time! Well done Ladies! And thank you to Carole and Jane for refereeing.
 
Saturday Golf:
 
I had the pleasure of playing a round with the “Saturday Ladies” last weekend. It was my first chance to find out the Saturday secrets…but my lips are sealed!!
Ellen Neale was the winner with 37 points from Pam Barker, 36 points..
 
Etiquette:
 Just a reminder that if you withdraw from a competition at a late stage, e.g. the previous day/evening or on the day of competition, it is expected that you will contact your playing partners directly to advise them. If unable to contact them at least please call the pro shop.

Thursday Golf:

The winners of todays daily competition , the 1,2,3 countdown event over 16 holes were Gloria Campbell, Wendy Burke, and Uschi Eriksson with 69 points on a count back. Three teams came up with the same score!
There were 39 players. Maggie McKenzie won NTP 2nd shot on 12th and Pro Pin jackpots again with no winner today ($54).

Club Championships

The draw for the first round of the championships has been done and is posted on the computer booking sheet.The draw was seeded by handicap within the three divisions.
Any additions or deletions must be done through the captain or the pro shop please!

CAPTAIN versus CAPTAIN TROPHY
The ladies team convincingly won this Annual trophy event today!
Nineteen players scored 629 Stableford points against the men's total of 593 points. Best on the day was Marion Tyree (40) with 41 points, followed by Pam Barker (20) with 38.
NTP was not won.
Men's captain Paul Carroll was gracious in defeat and granted us 'bragging' rights for only a week, although he was assured we would retain and enjoy them for at least a year!!
Balls were won by Leah Boyd, Wendy Burke, Leonie Carroll, Sue Olson, Chris Hill, Uschi Eriksson, Carole Turpie and Judy Windybank.

THURSDAY GOLF
A fabulous score of 13 over par won the event today, 3BBB v Par. The team of Anne Geddes, Anne Keys and Sue Olson revelled in the shorter course conditions to enjoy a winning round.
Pam Barker hit the jackpot for NTP with $168 for her efforts...well done Pam!!

SATURDAY GOLF
Stephe Whiteway(18) won the stroke event with a nice nett 70. Congrats Steph!

CSGA GOLF MEETING CANBERRA 20-23 September
Pam Barker and Jill Scott competed at Gunghalin Lakes and Belconnen courses during this annual CSGA event. Jill was nett winner Div2 on day 2 and Nett winner 36 holes Div 2. Pam was nett runner up Div 2 day 2.

Sandy was one of the lucky winners in the CSGA annual raffle winning a Bushnell Range Finder value $400, chosen by Pam in her absence.
