Women's Golf News

Another very successful day for our Bowral Open Champion with visitors from Jamberoo, Goulburn, Highlands, Moss Vale, Queanbeyan and Belconnen with 38 players overall.
Jocelyn Mackay once again proved her golfing prowess off a handicap of 4 to win the Bowral Open Championships  scratch trophy with a lovely score of 87.
Runner up was Bowral’s own Jill Scott 89 off the stick and Jill won the best nett score of 69 nett.
Division 1
Nett winner was Carol Warner 75 OCB and runner up was Kay Brennan 75 OCB  from Jamberoo
Jocelyn Mackay also won the longest drive on the 8th hole  and Debbie Collins from Gouburn won the NTP on the 14th hole.
Division 2
Scratch winner was Donna Carter from Highlands with 98 OCB from Bowral’s wonderful Gloria Campbell
Nett Winner was Wendy Burke with 75 nett and runner up was Robyn McGinness on 77 nett.
Longest Drive was Helen Chadwick
Division 3
Scratch winner Cathy Maule with 111 and runner up was Uschi Eriksson with 112
Nett winner was Rosemary Downing  with 81  and runner up was Anne Vitou on 83

Although the weather was damp and windy all appreciated the excellent condition of the course.
Next Tuesday is the Coloured ball competition and the coloured ball will be organised from the Pro shop.
Thursday the 2nd June we have the NSW Bowl 4BBB stableford and bookings are via the computer.
Thursday 9th June is the Barbara McCarthy Trophy also the Rosevale Plate the following Thursday the 16th June is the CSGA District Brooch, Presidents Cup and the Round 5 Monthy Medal (sign up sheet is the locker room).
The Colin Stamm Interclub trophy is on Tuesday 21st June. The sign up sheet is in the locker room and we need 12 players per team regardless of your handicap. This completion is match play between Moss Vale Highlands and Bowral with lunch at Bowral Golf Club after the match.

The weather was gorgeous on Saturday 21st May and the winner was.Judy Windybank with 35 points
NTP was not won and ball winners were Anne Geddes 33 pts, Noela McMurray 31 pts and Helen Chadwick 30 pts.

The weather on Tuesday 24th May was windy and a bit cold although despite this Pam Barker scored a lovely 36 pts to win A Grade
Runner up was Carol Warner 32 pts
B Grade winner Susan Harrison with 34 pts must also like the wind and cold
Runner up Anne Vitou 32 pts.
NTP A Grade with a lovely second shot by Carol Warner and B Grade NTP was Susan Harrison.

Bowral Open Championships is on Thursday 26th May with a field of over 50 with many visitors. Let’s hope the weather holds for us.

Mixed Foursomes Championships on Sunday 29th May and again 5th June.

The coloured ball competition on Tuesday 31 May is another good fun event. Enjoy playing our gorgeous course and being part of this great  group of lady golfers.

 Thursday Golf NSW 4BBB v Par:
The winds returned (seems to be a Thursday thing!) but it didn’t deter Carol Warner and Andrea Tomlin who notched up +6 to clearly win this event. Runners up on a count back were Jan Ferguson and Carole Turpie (+1). Vicki Scanlan collected a handsome $75 pro pin jackpot!
 
Both of these pairs are eligible to compete in the regional qualifying final at Federal GC on 25th August. (More details to follow- If these 4 players could contact me with their phone and email details for the entry form, I will ensure they are entered.)
 
Saturday Foursomes:
This was a popular change of game for a Saturday, with 14 starters enjoying the great conditions. Sally Knackstedt and Julia Skamperle combined to record best gross (94) and best nett (74) to win the day.

Tuesday Ambrose:
Helen Martin and Toni Clarke playing off only 9 ¼, won the event with 72 ¾ net. Mardi Svensson and Faye Frith with 73 were Runners Up.
It was a very slow round for some players…apologies our newer players at the end of the field, who got caught up with all the match play events behind the field. We will endeavour to mix teams up a bit more next time to help overcome this problem. SO please don’t despair, as such long rounds shouldn’t be, and normally are NOT the ‘order of the day’ !

Bowral Open Championships– 26th May
Three divisions, three magnificent trophies!

The draw is available in the locker room and on the computer from Friday.
Late Entries can be taken, but please ONLY through the Captain or Pro shop, as it is a seeded draw.
Divisions 1and 3 are from the first tee, Division 2 from the 10th tee.
Start times from 9am.
We look forward to seeing everyone back in the clubhouse afterwards for lunch and presentations.

4/1 was the official scoreline, Bowral GC versus Fairbairn GC.

You have never seen a more excited group of players and caddies from Bowral GC. 
The photos tell the story....  
Fairbairn GC ladies were gracious in defeat, sporting and friendly. 
But the Bowral girls, despite showing a few nerves in the early holes, recovered to show their true form and determination to finally "bring home the Bacon" aka, the Bronze Shield Trophy. Our last inscription on this enormous shield was in 1934, so quite a 'drought' between wins. 
Chris Hill was 'toasted' by us all with "bubbles" back at Bowral clubhouse for her 'fabulous' job of organising and making the team 'happen".
Well done to all involved, including players who travelled and played during the season, especially Helen Chadwick and Jane Clifford. 
The celebrations continue....

Bronze Shield Pennants: FINAL!!!!
Tomorrow is Finals Day in Moss Vale, playing against Fairbairn GC from 10am. Our team (with their caddies) is:

• Saturday Stroke:

Judy Windybank was the best of 12 starters with a net 73.

• Tuesday Stableford:

Faye Frith was the daily winner, and Shirley Brereton captured the NTP 2nd shot on 12th hole.

• Thursday was a Monthly Medal round/McLeish Cup Round 2, and Mabel McKenzie Veterans Brooch:

Wild and windy weather had us thinking about postponing the medal round today, but fortunately we didn’t, as the conditions were bearable after all! Rescheduling a round like this one is a committee’s nightmare, so I’m glad we didn’t have to go there…
Medal winners and daily winners (and also the Veterans winners) were Jan Deane (96/77), Susan Harrison (99/70) and a tie in Div 3 Leah Boyd and Noela McMurray (Nett 83) means a playoff will be required.
Runners-up were Jill Scott, Irene Gilbert and Noela, while Lowest Putts scored went to Pam Barker, Sue Harrison and Pat Donoghoe.
The pro pin was not won and jackpots to next Thursday ($33).

The Bronze Shield Team won today!!
A nail biting finish, 3 games to 2.
Fairbairn won the other semi so will be our opponents next week in Moss Vale.
Captain Chris said the team were 'fabulous' as were the caddies. 
The team for the final has been named:: Jan Deane, Carol Warner, Pam Barker, Anne Geddes and Chris Hill , Reserve:Barbara Clayton. Caddies are still to be finalised.

Celebrations will be held (one way or the other!) back at Bowral Golf Club after the final. Play commences at 10am, and we should be back in the club by around 3-3.30pm. We hope to see as many supporters as possible  there to join us !

• Tuesday Stableford attracted 24 players with Helen Chadwick winning Division1 with 33 points and Pru Taylor (RSGC) winning Division 2 with a day’s best score of 36 points. Full results can be seen by clicking on the ”Current Results” link on the RHS of the web page.
• Thursday was a PAR round, always a challenging game. With 36 players we split into 3 divisions, won respectively by Anne Geddes(-2), Gloria Campbell (Square) and Anne Vitou (+1). Wendy Burke won a $36 propin. Our field of 36 was boosted by three visiting players from Oatlands GC, who enjoyed their game despite not featuring among the winners.
