One of the first types of balls used in playing golf were made from leather pouches stuffed with bird feathers. They were last used in the mid 1800's.
COMMITTEE NEWS
Unfortunately, Jane Whittaker has had to make the hard decision to step down from the Committee due to personal reasons. Jane is not going anywhere and will still be playing golf as often as she can. The Committee would like to thank Jane for her help and support to date. Jane will continue to help out when possible, especially with the different special events.
The Match Committee has now been formed and I am very pleased that Margaret Horwitz and Ellen Neale have agreed to join Chris Levy and myself. We are looking forward to working together to ensure a very positive golf year ahead.
GOLF RESULTS
Friday 16th. The weather was definitely not very enticing for us women folk! A field of only 11 men played in this week's 9 Hole Nugget Comp.
Saturday 17th. The course is still very wet under foot but there were 8 of us WG's (women golfers) out there.
1st with a score of 34 (CB) was Michelle Alcock. Michelle also got BIRDIES on holes 12 & 13.
2nd was Meeghan Bourne also with a score of 34.
3rd on the day was me (Jan Tuite) with a score of 32.
Sunday 18th. While Sunday comps are usually small it is nice to see we have the option of playing in a comp on both weekend days. 4 WG's (women golfers) played.
1st was Susannah Sweeney - with a score of 34. Susannah is a visitor from Royal Sydney
2nd was Sharon Rowe with a score of 30.
Tuesday 20th 4BBB. We had 27 players which meant 1 player had the opportunity to be a "swinger" and have their score count twice. Luckily it was Helen Balfe! Helen played a wonderful game with both her partners. BIRDIES on both the 12th and 17th holes.
1st Team - Pat Donoghue and Helen Balfe with a score of 47
2nd Team - Di Mellon and Helen Balfe with a score of 44
3rd Team - Robyn McGinnes and Barbara Clayton with a score of 37
Special Mention goes out to Pam Barker.
I love the fact that as women we can have a little problem on the course and find ourselves surrounded by friends to have a good laugh with and then they help to get us out of trouble!! Pam thank you for letting me share this!

Thursday 22nd - Jubilee Foursomes Qualifying Round
In the olden days when we used cards and before MiScore was born, players were asked to mark their cards with a "Q" if they wished to qualify. MiScore does not give us that option so if you are listed here in the top 8 teams and do not wish to qualify, please let me know asap so I can get the draw completed.
The 8 teams to qualify are:
1 - Virginia Wozniak and Sophie Rankine with a score of 85
a BIRDIE for Sophie on the 5th hole
2 - Sue de Cseuz and Sue Olson with a score of 80.5
3 - Anne Keys and Marg Anthony with a score of 83 (CB)
4 - Robyn McGuinnes and Sharon Rowe with a score of 83
5 - Maggie Mckenzie and Faye Frith with the score of 83.5
6 - Barbara Clayton and Jane Clifford with a score of 84
7 - Di Lindsay and Jan Ferguson with a score of 85 (CB)
8 - Carol Warner and Shirley Bereton with a score of 85
