Highlands ran a very successful open day with 84 players from 11 clubs participating. Congratulations to Wendy Thompson and all the committee.
Seven BGC players - Ellen Goodwin, Chris Hill, Marg Horwitz, Noela McMurray, Rosemary Pettiford, Sharon Rowe and myself supported this open day at Highlands Golf Club. The course was quite wet (maybe I should say very wet and muddy) in places but is generally recovering well from all the recent rain.
The format was Las Vegas Ambrose where the player whose is ball chosen by the team does not play the next shot. For example, A, B, C & D all tee off. If the best drive is played by A the ball is marked and each of B, C & D play from here. This format of play continues until the ball is in the hole. No one player in a team can dominate the team result so you end up with very even team scores.
Chris Hill was our star of the day. Not only was Chris a member of the winning team, she also won NTP on the 18th. Her shot ended less than 20 centimetres from the hole. Because of the format of the game Chris did not get the honour of tapping the ball in for the birdie.
Just to round off the day Chris also won a hamper in the raffle!!
CSGA Opening Day - Yowani Golf Club - Thursday 27 February
This event is clearly very popular with the organisers turning players away once they reached 144 entries. In the end there were 135 competitors from 19 clubs. This number of players and a two tee start meant it was a very long day. The CSGA is already reviewing the format ready for next year. Thanks to Barb Clayton for all her work on the CSGA Committee as one of the joint Tournament Directors.
Nine players from Bowral made the early start - Ruth Bailey, Pam Barker, Helen Chadwick, Barb Clayton, Jan Deane, Rosemary Downing, Anne Geddes, Sharon Rowe and myself.
We were represented in special events held in conjunction with the daily competition - Anne Geddes played in the Division 1 Champion of Champions and Rosemary Downing represented Bowral for the Division 3 Championship. I was our sole representative in the Diabetes Trophy.
Unfortunately no major prizes for our group - Pam and Barbara won balls in the ball rundown and Barb won NTP for Division 2 (after knocking me off!!!).
We were much more successful in the raffle - prizes to Helen Chadwick, Ruth Bailey and myself.
Berrima District Sports Awards - Friday 28 February
Noela and Tom McMurray, Chris Hill, Barb Clayton and I were delighted to join the Di Natale family to watch Michelle accept her award for the district Junior Sportsperson for July 2019. It was a great night. Hearing about the achievements of all the winners, Junior, Senior and teams highlighted what a talent is nurtured locally in this area.
A good field of 28 players considering 9 of us were in Canberra.
Carole Byrnes (26) was the winner with 39 points on a countback from Maggie McKenzie (25).
Carol Warner won the pro-pin ($37.50) while Carole Byrnes won NTP 2nd shot on the 12th hole.
Canadian Foursomes - Tuesday 25 February
Again a great field of 30 players even though 7 of us were playing at Highlands.
Julie Jeffery (24) and Maggie McKenzie (25) combined well to achieve a nett score of 765/8 from Rosemary Downing (36) and Pam Barker (22) with 791/4 nett.
The pro-pin ($40.00) was won by Janet Dunn and Robyn McGinnes won the NTP on the 6th hole.
Single Par - Saturday 22 February
Jenny Ogg (26) won the event with -1 in a competitive field of 10 players.
Maggie McKenzie won NTP 2nd shot on the 15th.
Golf on Thursday 5 March
As you are aware the greens renovations will continue on Thursday - so no golf at Bowral. Jan Deane has offered to arrange a competition at Mt Broughton starting at 8:30. The cost would be $30. This is a great opportunity to play on a different course without needing to travel.
If you are interested, please contact Jan - remember to add a 0 to the front of the number listed in the book.
