Women's Golf News

Ten players travelled to Goulburn today in very chilly conditions to contest the annual CSGA Veteran's Day Tournament. 
Eighty players from the whole CSGA region contested three divisions with two players, Barbara Clayton (32 pts) and Jane Clifford (35) finishing 4th in Divisions 2 and 3 respectively. The Overall trophy was won by Rosemary Downing on a countback with 38 points! 
Pam Barker won the SuperVets division (for those Over 70). A number of other Bowral players were awarded balls in the rundown - including Jill Scott, Helen Chadwick, Carol Humphreys and Leah Boyd. Not a bad day out for the Bowral ladies!

​ Fabulous weather made for a great day for the 40 players, including 15 visitors from as far afield as Royal Military College GC(7), Gold Creek GC (2), Belconnen Magpies  GC(1), Goulburn GC(1), Highlands GC (2), and Federal  GC(2).
Many struggled with the course, with some challenging pin placements keeping the putts at bay (at least in my game!), but most were full of praise for the fabulous condition of the fairways. 

As there were so many winners, I will let the results sheet do the "talking", but offer hearty Congratulations to our Champions:

Division 2 Winner: Anne Keys (Bowral) 98

 Golf NSW 4BBB v Par Qualifying Event –
 
Only 24 players entered but those who played enjoyed the ‘fun’ game!
 
The Winning Pair, and our representatives at the District Qualifying event at Belconnen GC on 24th August are Susan Harrison and Carol Humphreys! (+5 c/b).
I have just become aware that we are entitiled to two qualifying teams, so our 
runners Up, who were Jenny Ogg and Sandy Short(+5) will also be going. Congratulations to you all! 
NTP Second shot on 12th was Jill Scott, while Jenny Ogg won the $39 on offer at the Pro Pin (14th ).
 
Tuesday's Stableford:
Sandy Short (32) and Jenny Ogg (31pts) were the winner and runner up in Tuesday’s Stableford event. Sandy also won NTP, 2nd shot on 4th, and Faye Frith collected $15 for the Pro pin.
 
Match Play:
Today some ladies played a Challenge Bowl Knockout Singles Event.
Their eligibility to play on a Thursday competition day was questioned by some other players, as the Match Play Challenge Bowl Conditions of Play clearly state (and have for some years), “Matches are NOT to be scheduled for play on Thursday”.
It is with great regret that I have to disqualify the players concerned. It causes me great pain to do this to any players, as our aim is to have everyone playing and enjoying their golf!
But when rules are clearly displayed both on the noticeboard and on the website for players to read, there are no excuses. If I allow this for one group, others will want to do the same. The Match Committee was unanimous in its decision.
So ladies, please know your Conditions of Play – if in doubt read the Board or the website, or contact the Captain beforehand!
And if there is a query or a dispute of this nature, it should be raised firstly with the Captain (or a member of the Match Committee). This is also a Match Play Condition of Play.

Beautiful conditions prevailed for today’s stroke/medal round. Only 26 players took advantage of it though, with only 3 Division 1 players making it to the starting tee. It was nice to welcome back a few travelling members from their O/s holidays!
 
Pam Barker was the deserving winner, with a solid 94/nett 74 to scoop the prize pool, except for the Putt count, which went to Carol Warner (31 putts).
 
Division 2 had the most contestants. Jenny Ogg continued her good form from last week to pip Jane Whittaker by just one nett shot, 74 to 75. Jenny also won the Best Scratch score (101) and the Veterans. Sue Olson was the best putter, with 29!
 
Division 3 was also closely contested. Rosemary Downing was the Medal winner with 76, from Sandy Short (78). Rosemary collected the Veterans Ball, while Anne Vitou was the best with putts (33).
Fay Frith compiled the best scratch score (112 c/b) and also won the Pro Pin of $39.
 
Well done to all players, and Congratulations to our new round of Medallists!
 
The best scores in each Division will be sent to the CSGA for entry into the CSGA District brooch competition – Pam, Jenny and Rosemary – Good Luck Ladies!

There are some new feathered friends around the course at the moment – these little ducklings were seen on the third hole just near the bridge this week!!

It was a really exciting day! On arrival at Goulburn, in the frost and fog, we were greeted by the usual welcoming,  fabulous Goulburn Ladies' morning tea!

After some hiccups with the match play indexes,we finally got the correct cards to the players. We lost the toss, and Belconnen chose to tee off first. Luckily the fog lifted, and the day warmed very quickly. Lots of nervous players were wandering about, putting, chipping, chatting with their caddies. Finally after the official photos, we were away - Pam, followed by Chris, Jan , Barb and Helen.

Jan was first in - a huge 8/6 win. (How demoralising for her opponent?)
And from there it was all positive news- next Chris, then Pam, and as I fought for my par to secure a win at the 18th hole, I could hear the cheers! We were across the line, Bowral had retained the Bronze Shield!!!
Paul and Leonie Carroll were there too (diverted on route home from Orange) to cheer us in...and to buy the first round of celebratory drinks. Not too much,as we had to drive home first. 
But text messages to Bowral were greeted with 'I have the champers on ice' from Kevin Kenny, and our arrival at the clubhouse was very cheery, with drinks, cheese platters, friends, husbands, members all joining in for a well earned 'toast'. 
Thank you to Kevin and the club for their wonderful support of the Ladies Team!
Let's see if we can do it again next year!? Well Done to all the players and caddies.

Unfortunately I need to remind all players again:
It is not anyone else’s responsibility to move players from their allocated tee times without consultation with the Pro shop. The Pro shop manager has sole rights on the Starting Sheet, and he will make the rearrangements, not the players.
Please be at the starting tee at least 15 minutes before your appointed time, in case of withdrawals. This especially applies to next week’s Medal round, where players will be moved up in order if this occurs.

• Today’s winner of the Stroke round was Leah Boyd, with a fabulous Nett 69, and Runner up was Cathy Maule, Nett 70.
• Jenny Ogg won the NTP with her second shot on 12th hole, and Wendy Burke the pro pin  for $27.
• The Veteran’s winners were: Division 1 – Pam Barker (Nett 74), Division 2 – Jan Ferguson (Nett 71) and Division 3 – Leah Boyd (Nett 69).
• The Senior Vet’s winner (and proud to be one!) was Faye Frith (Nett 76). Pam was also eligible for this, but as she won Division 1, cannot win both divisions. Well done to all our ‘Seniors” on some great results!

 
Tuesday’s Coloured Ball event was a fun affair…all but one team managed to bring their ball home! Winners were the team of Rob McGinnes, Cathy Maule and Helen Chadwick (71 points).
 
Pat Donoghue won Saturday’s Stableford round with 30 points.
 
BRONZE SHIELD PENNANTS – Final: Can we do it again?
 
Our best wishes go with the team for Friday’s final match at Goulburn GC (10am versus Belconnen GC), in our bid to retain the shield from 2016:
