What a difference a bit of rain makes!  43 players on Tuesday and 5 today.

Plenty of rain meant there was quite a bit of water lying around on the course.  I even saw ducks swimming in a large puddle beside the 11th tee but was not quick enough to get a photo.

Today we played the Blue Course and I know several players were disappointed to miss out on this event.  Your Match Committee met yesterday via Zoom and we have scheduled a Blue Course event in both May and June.

We have made a few changes to May events from the schedule published earlier this month.  We want to try and keep you on your toes!!

Tuesday 5 May - still Stableford but now on the White Course
Tuesday 12 May - Par instead of Stableford
Thursday 28 May - Stableford on the Blue Course.

We have also updated the events in June and I will publish the changes early next week.

Another amazing field of 43 players.  Tim even had to go back to the clubhouse to restock the supplies of sandwiches.  The fabulous scores have continued - it may be a bit different later in the week when the weather breaks.

Today's Division 1 winner was Julie Hayden (18) with 41 points from her playing partner Margaret Horwitz (18) with 38 points.  Obviously a good influence on each other.

Faye Frith (34) was the Division 2 winner with 40 points from Barb Mead (34) with 37 points.

Balls were down to 33 on a countback.  See below for the results sheet.

Don't forget we are playing the Blue course on Thursday.  As we will be playing the 15th hole from the tee behind the 14th green please make sure you follow the appropriate safety instructions.  I have included a copy of the sign near the 14th tee as a reminder.

Another perfect golfing day - warm and sunny.  Carole Turpie (31) blitzed the field with 40 points from Andrea Tomlin (28) with 37 points.

A strong field of 16 players did well to get a game when the competition reached wait-list only proportions.  Hopefully this will continue when we eventually move on from having to only play in twos.

Thursday 30 April - Single Stableford (Blue Course)
Friday 1 May - 9 Hole "Nugget" Competition
Saturday 2 May - Single Stroke with points towards the Saturday Stroke Trophy.

Aren't we lucky to live where we do.  I know we miss some of our regular pursuits and meeting up with family and friends, but at least we have our golf to keep us going.

Another great field today - I certainly cannot remember the last time we attracted 39 players for a Par round.  The conditions were perfect and the good scores reflected this.  Today's Division 1 winner was Jill Scott (22) with +3 and the Division 2 winner on a count back was Barb Mead (35) with +2.  Full details are attached lower down the page.

Next Thursday we play on the Blue Course.  Our Handicap Manager, Noela McMurray, has done a bit of homework for us.  It is 159 metres from the Blue Tee on the 15th hole down to the gum tree beside the men's 14th tee.  Our course management skills will be in play that day.  Let me know if any of you are brave enough to play straight over the dam (on purpose or accidently)!

Don't forget the "Nugget" 9 hole competition has started on Fridays.  This is a great way to support the club and have a quick game.  One of the few times the men and women play on the same course.

Please remember if you use the toilet out near the 10th tee to make sure the door closes completely behind you.  Pull the door fully shut as sometime the automatic closer is not strong enough.

Another fabulous field - 42 players today.  Thanks for your great support helping to keep the club a viable concern.  There were some great scores - see below.

The weather was perfect for golf - sunny but not hot and a bit of run.  Hopefully we will have a few more of these perfect autumn days.

Don't forget we are playing a Par round on Thursday for a bit of variety.  Next week (Thursday 30 April) we will be playing on the Blue course.  As you are aware there are now official Women's White and Blue courses as well as our normal Red course.  Playing a few rounds on the newly approved courses allows your Match Committee to monitor that we have the correct indexes for each hole before the next lot of cards are printed later in the year.

After you play the Blue course, I (or any of your Match Committee - Annie Geddes, Jan Deane, Noela McMurray and Barbara Clayton) would be happy to hear any comments you may like to make about playing off the Blue Tees.  Would you like these to be considered as the "Championship Course" when it is time for the club championships later in the year?

Thanks to all our women players for coming out and supporting our club.  20 players yesterday in the inaugural "Nugget" 9 hole competition and a further 17 today.

Here are today's results.

There were some great scores recorded by our competition of 37 players yesterday who were out in perfect conditions. Two players in particular Helen Chadwick (29) with 47 points and Christine Levy (24) with 46 points blitzed  the field.  I am sure the handicapper will be looking at these results.

As you are aware the "Current Results" section of the blog is currently not working so I will try and include the results here after each of our games until we are up and running again.

We continue to attract great fields for our Women's Competitions.  What more could you want than a walk with purpose on our beautiful course.

Before I update you with the latest results just a reminder to members playing on Saturdays.  Please remember to ring the bell on the 10th as you go past.  Long hitters standing on the 10th tee need to know it is safe to hit off.

Single Stableford - Tuesday 14 April
Thirty four players took on the challenge of playing the "White Course" for a bit of variety.  Not too different to the usual Red Course - but the 8th certainly becomes a very long hole.

Division 1 (0-26)
Barbara Clayton (20) won with 35 points from Sue Harrison (25) with 34 points.
Division 2 (27-54)
Carole Turpie (32) won on a countback with 36 points from Andrea Tomlin (28)
Eight balls in the rundown to 30 points.

Single Stableford - Saturday 11 April
Winner was Sue Harrison (25) with 33 points.
Four balls down to 30 points.

Single Stableford - Thursday 9 April
Another great field of 34 players. Jan Ferguson (24) was the Division 1 winner with 35 points from Sue Harrison (25) on 33 points.  Perhaps we need to test Sue as she is in such good form.
Ruth Bailey (27) won Division 2 with 36 points from Rosemary Downing (31) with 35 points on a countback.
Nine balls down to 31 points.

Single Stableford - Tuesday 7 April
35 players including one visitor from Avondale.
Division 1 - Winner Leonie Carroll (23) with a fabulous 38 points from Margaret Horwitz (18) on 36 points.
Division 2 - Winner Ellen Goodwin (29) with 36 points on a countback from Robyn McGinnes (27).
Ten balls in the rundown to 31 points.

Stroke - Saturday 4 April
10 players in this monthly stroke round with results counting towards the Saturday Cup for 2020.
Sue Harrison (24) was the winner with 104/80 from Andrea Tomlin (28) with 109/81 and Maggie McKenzie (20) with 101/81.  Well played in what was clearly pretty tricky conditions.

Dear Ladies,
 
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for the way you have embraced the unusual circumstances we have been facing in recent weeks, especially in relation to the Golf Club.
 
Your support of the club, while adhering to the procedures put in place to protect us all, has been extremely impressive.
So many of you have been taking the opportunity to enjoy some ‘exercise’ on the course, while the weather is still clement. Lots of waving and “socially distanced” chats have helped keep us all connected and able to check on everyone’s well-being, even if briefly.
 I am sure many of you have also been calling each other, especially those whom we aren’t seeing on the course. If we are all conscious of doing this, we will keep all our members feeling included and welcome within the Club, and be able to help support those who need it most.
If there is anyone who has suffered any more serious loss or bereavement, please let me know, so I can be in touch on behalf of us all.
 
I have regularly passed on our thanks to Kevin and Tim, for their efforts to enable the Club and our Golf playing to continue. By their strict following of the guidelines suggested by Golf Australia and Golf NSW, the Club has adapted to post “Corona” life with innovative and exciting ideas. We hope some of these may even stay with us when life eventually does return to something like ‘normal’!
 
What a different Easter it is this year! May you still enjoy the luxuries traditionally consumed at Easter (thinking of Chocolate!), but also the peace and quiet that staying at home offers us this year!
 I sincerely wish you and your families and loved ones, the very best for this Easter season.

As you know last week was a very topsy-turvy time.  New restrictions instigated on Monday, then all golf cancelled for a couple of days, before finally being reinstated on Thursday.

Our fields have been strong though- except for a wet day on Thursday - and hopefully we can continue to provide a safe environment for you on our beautiful course.

During the week we have been advised that NSW Women's Vets have postponed all events until further notice.  This affected the Mabel McKenzie Brooch last Thursday and the Vets Country Championship qualifying due to be held in May.

Golf NSW has also postponed all its events including Women's Medal Competitions, NSW Bowl and the Goodwill Plate.  Golf NSW will advise when these events can be reinstated while conditions may need to be modified due to the reduced number of qualifying opportunities.  

In light of these changes your Match Committee has met (via email) and updated our scheduled events in May.  One major change is the cancellation of the Bowral Open Championship for 2020.  The online calendar is updated and the online booking system will be amended shortly.

As you are aware we have started two of our longer term match play events, the Challenge Bowl and the Jubilee Foursomes.

Due to the limit of only two players in a group, the Jubilee Foursomes match play rounds are deferred until further notice.

The Challenge Bowl is also impacted due to the COVID-19 changes we are experiencing.  You may still play your match play rounds if your opponent is available.  But, as some of our members are choosing to continue to self isolate, we have decided to defer all dates when rounds need to be completed until golf gets back to normal.  We want the "Challenge" to be equitable for all our members.

Only 14 players due to some rain but that did not seem to harm the scoring.
Rosemary Downing (32) was the winner with 36 points from Carol Warner (19) with 33 points.
