It has been a busy week for our women golfers - 38 players in the 4BBB on the White Course on Tuesday and 28 players on Thursday.
Unfortunately, the results on Tuesday (and there were some great scores!) were not handicapped, as there was an issue with the scorecards. Thank you for understanding.
The CSGA Opening Day on Thursday at Gold Creek was a very successful day. Congratulations to Barb Clayton, who is a joint Tournament Director, on running such a big day ... 100 women playing stroke!
Pam Barker, Ellen Goodwin, Virginia Wozniak, Barb Clayton and myself thoroughly enjoyed the day. Pam won NTP in Div 2 and a lovely handbag in the raffle. Well done Pam!
Below are Barb and Ginny having a few practice holes on Wednesday afternoon.
We had a lovely day out at Mt Broughton yesterday, playing in a new competition organised by Alison Mooney and Sally Bailey. We played on a modified course (thank goodness) and it was great fun. This event will take place once a month, on Fridays, so keep a look out in the blog for the date of the next one.
Clare Stanham, Barb Mead, Sue De Cseuz, Jill Malone, Sue Harrison, Carole Byrnes, Virginia Wozniak and myself played with girls from Moss Vale, Kiama, Goulburn and Mt Broughton - terrific fun!
The Plate Pennant Team and the Bronze Shield Team enjoyed a short game clinic last Tuesday with Kevin Kenny. We learnt how to chip correctly and putt like a Pro. Let's hope we can remember all Kevin's tips when it matters!! Next week we are concentrating on bunkers - heaven help us!!!!
After next Tuesday's Clinic, we are having another information session - this time on Match Play. Even if you are not in the Pennant Teams, and would like to know the Ins and Outs of Match Play, please come along. It will start about 3.00pm next Tuesday 22nd February in the Clubhouse. I would like to encourage any of you to attend.
The first game for the Plate Team is on Thursday 3rd March - congratulations to the women who have been chosen to play at Federal Golf Club. Details on Thursday.
GIRLS GETAWAY
Unfortunately, Calderwood GC is not available for our "Girl's day Out" on Tuesday 15th March. HOWEVER, the lovely organiser - Ellen Neale, has been busy securing another venue.
Ellen is hoping to book us in for golf at Kiama Golf Club - tee time 10.30am. Cost is $65pp which includes golf, cart and prize pool. However, this booking cannot be made until the 22nd Feb. Please keep your eyes peeled for more information.
PACE OF PLAY
No rules this week, but may I please ask all of you to KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT. If we all do this, our game will be very ENJOYABLE.
Some tips ......
Player Responsibilities
Very few golfers would admit to being slow players but we can all do our bit to play a little bit faster.
Be ready to play
- While you are waiting to play, use your time wisely so when it is your turn you are ready to play.
- When it is your turn to play, play promptly.
- Consider your pre-shot routine - saving even a few seconds will help.
- When play of a hole has been completed, leave the putting green quickly.
- Always play at a good pace.
- Keep up with the group in front.
- Invite the group behind to play through if appropriate.
- Play a provisional ball to save time if you think your ball may be lost.
If each player in a four-ball takes 5 seconds less to play each shot, the round time can be improved by over 25 minutes.
WHITTAKER'S WINNERS
- MITTAGONG GARDEN CENTRE – Don’t let these glorious days of summer slip by without adding at least one new plant to your garden or courtyard. I can thoroughly recommend the beautiful geranium named Big Red. I think it’s a winner as it flowers all year and doesn’t seem to mind a lot of shade. I have it planted in a window box on my front porch facing south and it’s stunning. See photo.
- ALDI - For a super quick meal try the garlic prawns in the fresh fish section near the salmon. Toss them in a fry pan with capers, shallots and artichoke hearts or whatever you fancy, then add some pasta. Add some Grana Padano flaked parmesan from the cheese section and there you have it - a great meal for two!
- ALDI – While you are try the relatively new soft white cheese called French L’Ovale Cheese I think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. It sells very quickly so stock up if you like it.
