Today Bowral Golf Club hosted the district finals of the L'oreal 3BBB v Par Classic for Golf NSW. 22 Teams competed for the honour of progressing to the next stage being the State Finals at Cypress Lakes in the Hunter Valley, This is a fully paid expenses trip. The winning score was +10 ( Yowani) +9 ( Royal Military College) and +8 was Bowral No 2 team of Faye Frith, Wendy Pope and Pam Barker and 3 other teams. Well done to all the ladies for competing. The demoralising
part of the game was the team from Fairbairn Golf Club. Three lovely girls ages 14, 12 & 10 with handicaps similar to their ages. If only our parents had the foresight years ago to turn our thoughts to golf. As the father of one of the girls said to me "What better way for the girls to spend time together than 4 hours chewing the fat". Congratulations to Yowani. Next week the greens are being cored and the ladies are having a fun day at Calderwood Valley. Other ladies are venturing to Orange - Many good restaurants and wineries in their area. I am off to Canberra to represent Bowral in the CSGA Annual Tournament. The Foursomes Championships are looming. The starters sheet is in the locker room. Round 1 will be a drawer by Divisions, Round 2 a draw by scores. Get your partner and join the fun. Remember Golf is meant to be FUN and seroius if you want to be. Today the Emily Hurt Team played at Bowral against Royal Canberra. For us it was a do or die effort to make the finals next week. Unfortunately we squared the match which gave us 1 point, Royal Canberra also got 1 point so the results were:
Capital - 12 points, Royal Canberra 11 points and Bowral 10 points. The finals are now played between Capital and Royal Canberra. To Carole Turpie ( Team Captain) and her team I must say - well done. They did not loose a match through the whole season. There were 7 matches and the scores were 3 wins and 4 squares. Carole proved a worthy leader with 5 wins and 2 squares. Congratulations to all members of the Team. Yesterday (Thursday) another team of ladies ventures to Royal Canberra. It started raining at Goulburn and never stopped all day. The greens were flooding and the greens staff were out with their super soppers making them playable. There were 20 teams vying for the Challenge Bowl. Bowral came in a respectable 7th with a score of 96 - the winners had 107. The champion of the day was again Carole Turpie - Carole was Runner up in Division 3. Thank you to all the ladies for getting up so early to travel to the ACT not only for the Bowl but also all the pennant matches. The ACT ladies appreciate our efforts. Today they thanked the staff, the players and all involved for a great day and a great course. Some had never played here before but will be back. Next Thursday is our "Over 50's Day". The draw is on the computer. We have 13 visitors and a field of 45. See you all next week - Pam Barker |
