Canberra Shield at Belconnen Golf Club
Although we came home empty handed a good time was had by all and we have happy memories of our Canberra sojourn. Our winners were Chris Hill, Sue Harrison and Marion Tyree..with several matches going to the 18th. A big thankyou to our very willing caddies. We look forward to a repeat performance in 2015! And, Hot off the Press from Bowral today we heard that a HOLE-IN-ONE was scored on the 6th by Annie Chabert-Mackay!! Well Done Annie, we hope you shouted all the girls a drink for that one! Melbourne Cup:
How fortunate were we to have such a great day for our golf, and a wonderful lunch to follow. It was suggested that the winners (the Brereton/White partnership) should be further handicapped after their amazing score of 79!! Almost closely followed by the Meere/Young combination. Congratulations to the winners and to Anton and Pam for looking so suave and winning the best dressed couple! Also a big thankyou to the Dad's Army volunteers for organising the sweep tickets - if only they only sold winners................ Barby's Bunch: As most of you know, Barbara Westwood is often busy in the gardens around the clubhouse, and is ably assisted by some of our lady golfers. Her next day out is Friday 21st November, from around 8am. for 1-2 hours. If you would like to assist her for even a short time she would be most grateful. Just bring some basic implements. Canberra Shield: 14 ladies head for Canberra tomorrow to compete in this event on Thursday - 8 players and 6 caddies. As we have never competed in this event before, we are keen to see how it all works. With a bit of luck we may even bring back the trophy - we will certainly be trying - Cart Hire: Kevin Burke has introduced a cart hire policy and details of this are on our notice board for reference. Jill Scott Lady Captain Saturday Golf:
We had 8 players yesterday playing a Stableford round. Congratulations to Wendy Burke with a very respectable 35 points. Pro Pin Winner: Wendy also featured on Thursday with a huge $141 win on the pro pin - I believe suitably celebrated afterwards. A good day to stay after presentations! Colin Stamm: Thank you to all those players who have nominated for this annual event. The Match Committee will nominate a team on the 10th November - could be a formidable task!! Unmissable Movie: This is a "ring in" topic: If you never see another movie in your life - be sure not the miss "Pride" - currently on at the Empire. Jill Scott Canberra Shield:

Jan/Carole/Anne V Shirley/Fran S Sandy/Jenny Jill /Sue H Marion (travelling with Barbara Clayton who is staying separately) Pam and Anne Geddes are travelling down on the Thursday. Chris Hill has organised her own organisation. If possible please wear our club shirt (or white shirt) with navy pants. If any queries please contact me. J Scott Lady Captain A Canadian Foursomes event was played yesterday - great conditions although a little chilly to begin. We had a field of 20 including two visitors from Avondale - they enjoyed our course, although the greens caused them a problem - surprise, surprise!! Congratulations to winners Faye Frith and Julie Crampton. On Monday 8 of our ladies travelled to Camden to support their Breast Cancer Day - it was a huge field, and an unbelievable amount of prizes and donations. When we left they had raised over $15000, and I am sure the final amount would have been much higher. Canberra Shield: Our nomination for this event has been accepted, and 15 of our ladies will be travelling to Canberra for next Thursday's event. We will have 8 players and 7 caddies. The match committee will select the players on Thursday this week and we will contact those players by the end of the week. We will try our best to bring back the shield!! Melbourne Cup: Spaces for this event are filling fast - almost 100 for lunch - it seems the change of menu has been a popular one. One of our well known members, David Stanley, is still looking for a team - if you know anyone who would like to play with David (and who wouldn't??), would you please give him a call.................. Jill Scott
Lady Captain What an efficient Vice Captain we have!! Thank you for your comments Barbara - they are much appreciated............
Congratulations to Anne Keys (Division 2) and Rosemary Downing (Division 3) for their wins - celebrations are definitely in order! Lady Luck was very kind to us during the running of the Championships - almost perfect weather, which for this time of the year in Bowral, cannot be taken for granted. It would be remiss of us not to comment on the condition of the course - it is simply superb, and our green staff continue to impress us with the course presentation. Thankyou to Damien and his staff. It was good to see so many of our members supporting this event, providing competition in all three grades. All over now for another 12 months!! Canberra Shield For those of you who have expressed interest in travelling to Canberra to play/caddy in this event, we hope to have further details on this in the next few days. Colin Stamm We still require people to nominate for this event - the nomination form is in the locker room. Jill Scott Lady Captain First words this week are coming from your Vice Captain, as it would be impossible for Jill to write her own congratulations!! When she comes to write her blog she will have a nice surprise I hope! Congratulations to our new Club Champion and Division 1 winner, Jill Scott! With a fabulous score today of 87/Nett 69 to clinch the Championship over the three rounds, she must be very pleased with her game, especially coming from behind to claim the victory. Well done also to new-ish member Chris Hill on being Runner up, 6 shots behind on aggregate over the three rounds. I will leave Jill to do the rest and fill in the important details...!
