27 ladies played in a Stableford round today in pleasant conditions, although it did get warmer and more humid as the day progressed!
Tuesday Golf:

"The best laid plans etc etc" - it didn't matter how many revisions we made to try to play golf on Thursday, the weather beat us in the end. Oh well, there's always next year. In spite of the inclement weather, we had a thoroughly enjoyable day indoors. Many of our members played "games" during the morning, followed by about 60 of our members enjoying Christmas lunch together. The Christmas "spirit" was evident. Our President, Carole, thanked all members of staff for their assistance during the year and small gifts were also given to the green staff by the Committee. Mention was also made by Helen Chadwick of Barbara Westwood (who was unable to be present) and her untiring efforts with new members and the grounds around the Clubhouse. This was roundly applauded. Pam Barker was kind enough to donate her Christmas pudding for a raffle, with the resultant funds of $216 going towards the cost of the lunch. A collection was also taken for the Rainbow of the Southern Highlands to be given to them for local children. Thankyou to all our members for being so supportive. Last but not least - who could forget the entertainment?? Give Sandy Short a stage and she will give us a performance to remember!! The "players" of note were Anne Geddes, Anne Keys, Sandy, and Faye Frith - their performance was so memorable and will be talked about for a while to come!!! Not to forget the wonderful voice of Uschi Eriksson - we are full of admiration for her performance - especially when there is no background music to assist her. All in all a great day - hopefully it is the precursor to many happy days in the new year. Happy Christmas to all and your families Jill Scott Update on Closing Day:
Although it's not raining at present, all indications are that we are in for a downpour from about 9pm today. If that happens the course will be even wetter than it is now. If the course is open tomorrow (refer to the daily report on the course tomorrow morning), you may elect to play golf. In this instance we suggest nine holes be played, all from the first tee - commencing from 8.30 am. The holes to be used in this instance are - 1,2,3,4,13,15,16,17,18. This will still give you plenty of time to get in for lunch at 1pm. Just turn up at the 1st tee if you wish to play. Lunch will commence at 1 pm, and the cost of lunch only is $10 - which is to be put into an envelope which will be placed on each table. Please ask someone at your table to be responsible for collecting same. The balance of the lunch money is being met out of committee funds. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Club tomorrow (sometime!!) Jill Scott Lady Captain Congratulations to today's winners - the conditions were extremely heavy, so Jenny Grant's 35 points have to be applauded.............
Closing Day 11th December: As the course is in a very heavy condition, and more storms are forecast over the next 48 hours, it is highly unlikely that any golf will be played on Thursday. In order to keep up with the situation, please keep your eye on this blog - we will hope to post a further message at midday tomorrow (Wednesday). Further information may also be obtained from the pro shop. In the event that we are unable to play golf, games (bridge , scrabble, mahjong etc) will be played from 10.30 am at the club. Lunch will be as usual, however if you decide not to attend on the day PLEASE let the club know, as the lunch will have to be paid for otherwise. Lunch will be served at 1pm. If your team decides they still wish to dress up, prizes will be awarded to the "best dressed". We look forward to seeing you on Thursday - rain hail or shine.............. Jill Scott Lady Captain Thursday Golf:
After yet another torrential downpour yesterday, it was pleasing to see that 29 players turned up for the par round today. It is to be hoped that everyone enjoyed their day - the course was really very good considering the hammering it has received this week. However,,,,,, the scores were not good! We had two divisions - the division 1 winner was Bev Kemp Clayton, runner up Gloria Campbell - -2 and -4 respectively. The division 2 winner was Marion Tyree and the runner up Mim Poolman (welcome Mim), with -1 and -2 respectively. Encouragement to Pam Barker, and Secret Santa prize to Helen Chadwick - no need to mention scores!! Closing Day - 11th December: Names have now been entered on computer although not in hole order at the stage. It is a shotgun start 8.30 for 9. Cost is $25 which includes lunch and golf - the lunch is being subsidised by from the ladies committee funds. Entertainment is being provided by the BGC Players. Jill Scott Lady Captain Tuesday Golf:
After ferocious storms on Monday evening it was good to see the course had survived with seemingly little damage (apart from the bunkers!!). Surprisingly therefore we had a field of 35 players (Tuesdays keep getting bigger and bigger). The winner was Anne Geddes with a great 37 points, and the runner up was Rosemary Downing with 33 points on a countback. NTP went to Mardi Svensson (welcome back!) and Drive and pitch on the 15th to the birthday girl Susie Harrison. Jill Scott Lady Captain Thursday Results:
26 players yesterday in our Canadian Foursomes with the winners being Anne Geddes and Pam Barker with 93 off the stick, 79 nett - a very good score. The runners up were Sue Harrison and Cathy Maule (welcome back) with 80 nett. Saturday Golf: From this week the pro will do our results - instead of a ball $5 will be credited to the winner's account. Should a player wish to receive a ball this can be organised. Christmas Cheer: Spaces for this day are filling fast. In case you need a further inducement to play, there will be a refreshment stand on the 10th manned by Geoff Meere and friends. Prizes will be awarded to the "best dressed". The Bowral GC performers will be on hand to entertain later in the day. All in all not a day to be missed!! Gold Medal Playoff: Bev Kemp Clayton is to represent our Club at Mona Vale next Tuesday - we all wish her success in this event. Jill Scott Captain Only 1 month to Christmas - frightening huh?
Combined Christmas Cheer and Champion of Champions: This event was held today and was a success for many reasons...... No one will forget the five hole playoff in the Champion of Champions between Jocelyn Mackay of Moss Vale and Satako Hayashi of Highlands. Jocelyn was the eventual winner. It was great to see the onlookers on the deck as the champions came up the 18th hole. There were 75 players in the event of the day with the winners being PennyMcKenna, Clare Stanham and Sue Olson with 62 points. The runners up were Bronwyn Walton, Chris Levy and Anne Keys with 58 points. Congratulations to all the other winners. And if that wasn't enough - Who will (be allowed) to forget Faye Frith's hole in one on the sixth!! She shouted the bar but said the expense was well worth it!! Well done Faye - your name is on the board already - that has to be a record. Jill Scott Lady Captain Bonville:
Robyn McGinnes and Jenny Grant leave for Bonville today to represent CSGA in the statewide 2BBB competition. They have done very well to get as far as this, and we wish them every success in the final. Regardless of anything else we hope they have a great time! Legacy Day: Once again this was a great day - all out ladies enjoyed it and in particular the 2576 MASH tent on the 5th. The day was especially beneficial to Anne Geddes who won the Pro Pin - only $204!! Thursday Winners: We had 25 players and the winners were: Division 1 - Jenny Ogg Division 2 - Pat Donaghue Pro Pin - Trish Boyd - $39 CSGA Gala Day at Fairbairn: Four of our ladies travelled to Canberra to play in this annual event. It was lots of fun and money raised on the day went to the Canberra Child Flight. Some clever outfits were spotted on the day! Closing Day: Don't forget to enter your team (list in the "updated" locker room). Creative dress will be accepted!! |
