In dry, windy conditions, we played our best, but couldn't defeat an experienced Belconnen team! Barb won 5-4 and Pam 'squared' her match, to see us lose 3 1/2 - 1 1/2. THURSDAY STABLEFORD: It was wet underfoot, but not too showery today. 18 players made it round the course, with Helen Martin coming back to form with 32 points, from runner–up Susan Harrison on 31 points. Jill won the $15 pro-pin, and Helen also the NTP with second shot, on 4th hole. TUESDAY STABLEFORD: As the rain fell and the numbers diminished, we decided to make this a single Stableford event. Pam Barker won the day with 28 points. CSGA OPENING DAY at Federal Golf Club (27th February): Six players represented our Club at this event which hosted more than 100 players from 13 clubs. The course was fabulous and some of the scores were too - The winner had a net 66! Helen Chadwick was best from Bowral as Runner up in Division 2 with nett 74. Pam and Barbara also won a ball with nett 78’s. Helen took the mantle from Pam as our raffle winner of the day! BRONZE SHIELD PENNANTS 2017: The first round is on tomorrow at YASS Golf Club – our team of Pam Barker, Chris Hill, Barbara, Helen Chadwick and Jane Clifford are keen and organized (by Jane!) to attempt to defend the shield from last year. GO TEAM! And by the way… BERRIMA DISTRICT SPORTS AWARDS 2016 - You may have heard by now, that the Bronze Shield Pennants team WON the Senior Team of the Year (from 11 other nominees). We intend to celebrate this one more time, on Thursday 23rd March, after the Club Medal round. Everyone is welcome to stay and share a drink! Barbara Clayton Play in the Donkin Cup Trophy (Round 1) today was heavy going on a wet course, despite the sunshine (The DSR rating was 76). Congratulations to Helen Martin with 30 points, from Sandy Short, with 28 pts on a C/b. Carol Warner won NTP 2nd shot on 15th. The Pro-pin was not won and jackpots to next week ($42). Round 2 of the Donkin Cup will be held later in the year (August). Club and Golf NSW Medal Round 1: The Draw for next Thursday 16th February, is now available online and in the locker room. Late entries can be accepted by the proshop or the Captain, and will be fitted in by division or at the end of the field. A Sign Up Sheet is in the locker room for the Annual Challenge Bowl Singles Knockout, conducted during the year from March to August/September. All players are eligible (except Provisional members, as it is a Trophy event) – the draw will be done on 2nd March. The ‘weather gods’ smiled on us and we could enjoy a cool and dry day for a very pleasant change! I really appreciated your cooperation in regards to arranging/rearranging the teams – it’s quite a logistical challenge sorting out an event like the President v Captains Match…but we all looked good in bright yellows and many shades of blue, and for the third year in a row, the Presidents team won (418-403 points). Maybe next year it will be the Captain’s teams turn!?? We hope you all enjoyed the lunch menu and the added company of the 6 visitors from RMC GC, who said they had been made to feel ‘very welcome’! Happy New Year to all our players. We hope it will be a year of great golf, good health and firm friendships… OPENING DAY: Our traditional start to the year is the President’s versus Captains Trophy. This is a 4BBB event, with players allocated to play for either team- it’s a chance to mix everyone up a bit, to include our new players and perhaps play with someone you haven’t seen for a while! The draw is on the website, but as it is not working well at present, is reprinted below. Please note your team colour (PRESIDENTS- BLUE; CAPTAINS - GOLD OR YELLOW). Just wear something that will identify which team you’re on please! There are some vacant spots still if anyone wishes to be added to the draw. Any changes/withdrawals please phone me – on 48611949 or 0419403637 as I may need to rearrange the draw for other players. I would really appreciate your cooperation in this regard for this event especially! After the game, we will have lunch and presentation of some trophies. ALL PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO STAY FOR LUNCH UNLESS THEY INFORM US OTHERWISE –Cost for set 2- course (light) lunch is $20, and LUNCH ONLY members are also welcome. Please advise the Bar. No players keen enough to go out in the rain today…but a few came in for lunch celebrating ‘almost’ birthdays and others just catching up! Tuesday Golf: Finally summer arrived for a day! Some red faces adorned the locker room after play, but Jenny Alexander wasn’t fazed, winning with 34 points! Saturday Golf: Five players played a stroke round, with Jill Scott the winner with nett 74. State Final of Golf NSW Women’s Medal at Stonecutter’s Ridge Golf Club: Our club champion, Pam Barker qualified to play in this event as the CSGA district, Division 1 medal winner. I have pleasure in reporting that Pam has finished 5th in Division 1 in the state, 10th overall, AND furthermore she placed THIRD out of all the Country players. What a great finale for the year for her. We are proud to have Pam represent us. We wish you a well earned rest now, Pam …until next year! Vale Keith Markwell: it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Director Keith Markwell, husband of our colleague, Berniece. A memorial service will be held at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Wednesday 21st of December at 11am followed by a private burial, refreshments will be provided afterwards here at the Club.
