All around the course the blossoms are blooming - certainly is a magnificent time of the year.
The only "fly in the ointment" regarding Spring, is the onset of the leaves on the Willows - makes that 2nd shot on the 3rd just a little bit harder, doesn't it Carole Byrnes!!!!!!
ETIQUETTE ON THE COURSE
It has come to our notice over the past few months, that some players are hitting up on the group in front of them. This can cause quite a bit of stress on the people in front.
If you are on a Par 3 (4th, 6th, 11th and 14th particularly, PLEASE WAIT UNTIL THE GROUP IN FRONT HAVE LEFT THE GREEN BEFORE YOU TEE OFF.
We are usually mentioning SLOW PLAY in the Blog, but harrassing the group in front of you is not what we want to see at BGC. Etiquette is important, on and off the course!! It can also be dangerous, and safety is paramount.
If, by chance, the group in front have lost a fairway or 2, please wait until the end of your round and see one of the Committee Girls.
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS.....
"She violated the one universal, unbreakable etiquette rule in golf: If there is ANY chance that your shot could hit the player(s) in front of you, you do not hit your ball into the group in front of you. Instead, you wait. You never, ever, ever hit into other people if there is even the remotest possibility that your shot could reach them".
There is an amended Knockout Schedule on the Noticeboard in the Locker Room for the players competing in the Barbara McCarthy Trophy and the Rosevale Plate. The Match Committee have extended some of the completion dates due to the Covid Lockdown and Restrictions.
The Sign-Up Sheet for the Club Championships is in the Locker Room. Please pop your name down before the 7th October. The dates for the 3 rounds of the Championships are - 1st Rd - 14th October, 2nd Rd - 19th October, 3rd Round - 21st October.
The first round will be a seeded draw according to your GA handicap. We will do the draw on the 7th October and put it on the computer. Fingers crossed we will be playing in threes by then!!
RULES - FROM USGA and RANDA
Model Local Rule E-5
“When a player’s ball has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds, the player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance.
For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area (see Rule 14.3):
Two Estimated Reference Points:
a. Ball Reference Point: The point where the original ball is estimated to have:
- Come to rest on the course, or
- Last crossed the edge of the course boundary to go out of bounds.
b. Fairway Reference Point: The point of fairway of the hole being played that is nearest to the ball reference point, but is not nearer the hole than the ball reference point.
For purposes of this Local Rule, “fairway” means any area of grass in the general area that is cut to fairway height or less.
If a ball is estimated to be lost on the course or last crossed the edge of the course boundary short of the fairway, the fairway reference point may be a grass path or a teeing ground for the hole being played cut to fairway height or less.
Size of Relief Area Based on Reference Points: Anywhere between:
- A line from the hole through the ball reference point (and within two club-lengths to the outside of that line), and
- A line from the hole through the fairway reference point (and within two club-lengths to the fairway side of that line).
But with these limits:
Limits on Location of Relief Area:
- Must be in the general area, and
- Must not be nearer the hole than the ball reference point.
Once the player puts a ball in play under this Local Rule:
- The original ball that was lost or out of bounds is no longer in play and must not be played.
- This is true even if the ball is found on the course before the end of the three-minute search time (see Rule 6.3b).
But, the player may not use this option to take relief for the original ball when:
- That ball is known or virtually certain to have come to rest in a penalty area, or
- The player has played another ball provisionally under penalty of stroke and distance (see Rule 18.3).
A player may use this option to take relief for a provisional ball that has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds.
Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rule: General Penalty Under Rule 14.7a.”
