55 players enjoyed lovely sunshine after a chilly start, for the Annual Invitation Day Irish Stableford event.
Despite the hiccups of last minute printer breakdowns, and team rearrangements, we eventually got away for our ‘fun’ day of golf with friends and foes!
Visitors from Balgowlah, Pennant Hills, Royal Canberra, Oatlands, Goulburn, and Moss Vale Golf Clubs made up 23 of the total players. I hope they were made to feel welcome! The long table lunch of ‘buffet’ gourmet sandwiches, fruit platters and shared bowls of chips, seemed to work well with much chatter and interaction emanating around the room.
Our winners were the team form Bowral/Pennant Hills of Annelise King, Nettie Buchanan, Chrissie Grier and Lyn Moony with 99 points – that is, after they volunteered their card at the Presentation announcement from the back pocket!! (I thought I had accounted for all the cards, but was put off by the extra card from our 'swinger’ on the day, who putted out each hole to assist the only team of three players…Thank you Pam! )
Runners Up with 95 points were the Bowral/Moss Vale team of Anne Spiden Di Mellen, Chris Norrie and Margaret Horwitz.
Other winners were:
- Straightest Drive (1st) – Judy Tunks (Oatlands)
- NTP 6th – Helen Martin
- NTP 2nd Shot 15th – Liz Cavill (Manly)
- Longest Drive 18th – Chrissie Grier (Pennant Hills)
- Propin -14th Hole – Jane Whittaker ($111).
- Balls went to three teams, down to 90 points.
Thank you to everyone for your support of this event, especially Ellen Neale who brought the majority of visitors from her old club, Balgowlah!
One last note: In a teams event of 4 players, it is really helpful if all changes are made through the Captain – a lot of organization goes into sorting out and fitting players in for a competition like this. Last minute entries and withdrawals can be managed if everyone goes through the one source – and that is your captain!
It is not anyone else’s responsibility to move players from their allocated tee times without consultation or notification to the player or the Captain. Some last minute rearrangements today saw one player moved from the competition altogether, which is a totally undesirable and embarrassing outcome. Please observe correct etiquette and courtesy in future, and on any competition day, ensure that your fellow players are contacted if changes to bookings are being made that may affect others. Thank you for your consideration in this regard!
