On Tuesday, two match play events were finalised and the second round of the Donkin Cup was played on Thursday.
Challenge Bowl 2020
Finalists Penny McKenna and Di Lindsay needed to complete four previous match play rounds to reach the final of this special annual event. A very excited Penny came up trumps on the day with a decisive win 4/3. Thanks to Annie Geddes for acting as referee. Penny reached the final by defeating Barb Clayton and Di defeated Carole Turpie. Congratulations to all players for completing this 5 round event in such a difficult year.
Barbara McCarthy Memorial Trophy
A second event was completed on Tuesday with Ellen Goodwin and Jenny Grant competing in the final of the Barbara McCarthy Memorial Trophy. Ellen was the eventual winner 3/1. Thanks to Noela McMurray for refereeing this match.
Hopefully we will have a presentation day before the end of the year when we will be able to present all our outstanding trophies.
Donkin Cup
The second round of the Donkin Cup was finally completed on Thursday 24 September. It seems such a long time since the first round in February. At least the gap meant we had all forgotten who were the leaders after the first round.
The winner this year was Sharon Rowe with 74 points (38 points in R1 and 36 in R2) and the runner up was Robyn McGinnes with 70 points (32 & 38).
Upcoming Events
This week (Thursday 1 October) we play a stroke round for two events. The Prosper Ellis Salver is one of our annual trophy events.
We will also be playing the CSGA Diabetes Trophy qualification round. The three players (across the field) with the best nett scores on the day qualify to compete for the Diabetes Trophy at the CSGA Opening Day at Royal Canberra Golf Club on 11 February 2021. Diabetes Australia is the charity supported by the CSGA. Most of you have already paid a $2 donation (others will be asked on Thursday) which we will send off to support this great organization. You will also be asked to leave your cards on the locker room table after you have entered your scores so we can send off copies of the winning cards.
Club Championships
The Club Championships are fast approaching and are scheduled over three rounds:
Thursday 15 October, Tuesday 20 October and Thursday 22 October.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions which mean we cannot have a sign up sheet and subsequent seeded draw, entry for the first round has been modified. Please enter for the first round via the computer as per normal events. Rounds 2 and 3 though, will be a seeded draw (across the field) based on the previous round(s).
