After a very close first round on Tuesday, Pam Barker and Carol Warner played a fantastic round on Thursday to blow the field away and successfully retain the trophy they won last year. Here they are receiving the trophy from our President Barb Clayton. Congratulations also to Marg Horwitz and Barb Clayton the Division 1 runners-up receiving dinner vouchers from Jane Clifford.
Division 3 winners were Noela McMurray and Anne Vitou.
Championship Winners: Pam Barker (19) Carol Warner (19) 188 Gross
Division 1 Runners-up: Barb Clayton (19) Margaret Horwitz (18) 196 Gross
Division 2
Winners: Robyn McGinnes (26) Wendy Burke (23) 213 Gross
Runners-up: Jan Ferguson (25) Di Lindsay (29) 214 Gross
Division 3
Winners: Noela McMurray (39) Anne Vitou (34) 248 Gross
A point to keep in mind when you arrange partners for next year's event. Conditions of play state that if the two team members are in different divisions, they compete in the division of the player with the lowest handicap. An example would be one player on 29 (Div 2) and another on 36 (Div 3) - in this case they are competing in Division 2. This was the case for many of our pairs this year and it made it pretty hard to be competitive when the Championship is based on your gross score. Your committee can always help with the match-making if you are looking for a partner in the same division as yourself.
Daily Nett Events in conjunction with the Championships.
On Thursday (3 October) Pam Barker (19) & Carol Warner (19) blitzed the field with a nett 71. Runners-up were Rosemary Downing (35) & Carole Turpie (32) with a nett 76.5.
On Tuesday (1 October) Wendy Burke (23) & Robyn McGinnes (26) won with a nett 73.5 from Barb Clayton (19) & Margaret Horwitz (18) with a nett 77.5.
Well done to all players for a very successful and competitive Championship.
Before I went away for a couple of weeks Bowral and Moss Vale competed in one of our annual inter-club events - the Unity Cup.
The Unity Cup was presented in 1951 by Miss Leonora Wray and Miss Una Clift for play between the two clubs to promote unity and competition each year between the clubs.
Carol Warner, Helen Chadwick, Chris Hill, Sue Flaxman, Marg Horwitz, Jane Clifford, Barb Clayton, Penelope Cuffe, Pam Barker, Barb Mead, Leonie Carroll and Di Lindsay represented Bowral Golf Club in this 4BBB versus Par event.
Moss Vale were the victors this year +27 to +1. Hopefully we can reverse the result at Bowral next year.
Chris Hill & Sue Flaxman (+2) were the most successful BGC pairing and won vouchers for their efforts.
Here is Sue Shallis (Moss Vale Captain) reclaiming the Unity Cup from Jane Clifford and our winning pair receiving their vouchers.
Our district association - CSGA - held it's delayed AGM in Canberra on Friday.
Pam Barker retired from the Committee after 4 years - 3 as President. Thankyou Pam for all your hard work and commitment representing our club and raising our profile within the organisation.
Here is Pam receiving a presentation from the new President - Vicki Miers.
The CSGA raffle was also drawn at the meeting with two BGC members winning prizes. I won a Rory McIlroy head cover and Ellen Goodwin won a bag of goodies.
Bowral Club Championships
Remember the Championships will be held over three days - R1 Thursday 17th, R2 Tuesday 22nd & R3 Thursday 24th October. The draw for the first round is a seeded draw based on handicap. There is a booking sheet in the locker room so please make sure you get your entries in as soon as possible. If you cannot get into the club please contact either myself or Vice Captain Annie Geddes and we will add you to the list.
As always there will be a daily nett event held so even if you cannot play on all three days you are still welcome to play at the end of the Championship field.
